Welcome to the Fable Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on January 1st and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

ok i read the first 6 chapters!! i'm loving the setting right now with the island full of thieves and criminals, and i like the main character so far. adrienne young's writing is as addictive as always!

Chapter 1 "Another few weeks and I’d never have to dive these reefs again." Shit is going to happen, like if this isn't an invitation for bad luck I don't know what is.

I have to say that I was a bit reluctant to start reading in general because I'm not feeling much like reading, but this was fun. The 6 chapters flew by very fast, and it's easy to read. Maybe in the next days I won't be able to control myself to only read 6 chapters a day 😅

I'm intrigued what happened with her father, and also why is he called Saint. And what's going on with West.

I'm new to Adrienne Young but I love her writing. The characters feel relatable as well and I have so many questions about her dad!

I just finished the second set of chapters and oooo so it turns out that West and the gang work for Saint, I didn’t expect that! And yet they didn’t seem to actually like Saint.... they told Fable to work for someone else.... so why are they working for him? So many questions!

i just finished the third set! i won't say anything because i don't want to spoil (and no one else seems to have read as much as me), but let me know if any of your finish the third set!
i'll just say that i really love Fable ;)

I have some catching up to do. I read only the first day chapters. I'll definitely comment when I read it later today.

I have to catch up a little, but im already loving the main character.

I thought I'll have more to say when I catch up with the schedule, but I don't. I'm enjoying this a lot, and I'm wondering if ever read something on the sea (and while I was typing this I was looking up pirate books, and saw To kill a kingdom, so I guess I read at least one). I'm intrigued about the crew and how they became a crew.

I read chapter 19 too, and I'm wondering about some stuff (view spoiler)[like, why does West say he had to help her when she came asking for passage? Does he know she's Saint's daughter? Was he keeping an eye on her for Saint because he's somehow involved with Saint? (hide spoiler)]

omg yes To Kill a Kingdom is also probably the only pirate type book ive ever read. Im about to start chapter 19, but wow West is being so vague and mysterious about who he is and who he works for. I wonder what Fable is gonna do when she finally meets her dad, and what is Saint's deal. Why would he just drop her off just like that on Jeval and leave her alone? Not sure if i like him so much.

I saw some other books that I have on my tbr or just have my eye on them that are with pirates: The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea, The Bone Ships, The Assassin's Curse, Seafire so I'm excited about them because Fable is giving me expectations 😂

I'm curious about West too, what is his deal. I read yesterday chapter 19 and I'm wondering something because he said something.. you'll see.

As for her father, maybe he snapped after her mother's death, maybe he has some enemies and left her because of that because she can't tell anyone that she's his daughter, maybe he left her there because "she wasn't made for the ship life" so Jeval was a "better" choice OR life on Jeval was supposed to make her harder so that she could be for the ship life. I guess we'll see later on.

Yaaas The Assassin’s Curse is totally amazing, I love that duology! I hope you love it when you read it!

I just read chapters 19-24 and honestly they were a bit embarrassing😂 Fable really got rejected by her father lmao. But it’s pretty cool of him to carve a map into her arm..... that’s the most useful scar I can think of! I honestly don’t think Saint is such a bad dude though.
I’m glad she’s joining the gang on the Marigold now, together they can go get some treasure and kick some ass and, inevitably, end up in some deeper mystery😂

Chapter 23, I was right. Saint sent West to look out for Fable.

I read the next set of chapters, because it was short and I like how the story is developing (view spoiler)[ I like how Fable and Willa are growing close. I'm surprised Willa and West are siblings, but it's better than Willa being an ex or a very close friend to West (also, I constantly want to call him Wes). So did he confess to Fable that he likes her or what was the "you need to understand"? That confused me a bit. (hide spoiler)]

i like how Willa and Fable are growing closer as well, i feel like they'll be good friends! and yeah i was super shocked by the sibling thing.
and yep, West confessed to Fable that he likes her, but said that he isn't going to act on it, because he can't afford to get attached to Fable.
also damn, that trade of the necklace for 800 coppers was smart, but it was a real low blow.

The moment she said she knows how to get the coin from Saint I knew what her plan is. And yeah it was a low blow, but I can't decide if either way she should've done it because that way she's taking care of herself in the cruel world or.. not.

I had around 60 pages left since yesterday so I decided to finish the book today. I enjoyed it. How are you guys doing, any thoughts?

(view spoiler)[Fable and West's romance.. kinda escalated fast. I mean, yeah he said he "fell" in love with her the first time he saw her on Jeval, but I didn't feel like it was fully developed. And now I'm intrigued what Saint meant when he said "You don't know him", what does West hide?
I also didn't expect it to finish like this, on a.. kinda cliff hanger. I'm looking forward to the next book. (hide spoiler)]

I was definitely not expecting Saint to actually be Fable's dad and so I'm not sure how I felt about that situation and then him "rejecting" her after abandoning her had me feeling second hand embarrassment for her-sometimes it be your own dad

I’ve only got a couple chapters left and I’m enjoying it, but I’m not feeling super crazy over it. It’s quick to read and the chapters fly by so quickly. And is it just me or is there no real significant plot to the book?? 🤔

Right? Darce and I were talking how nothing discussion worthy was happening, so we are not the only ones with that... Maybe this story is not one of those that that follows a character on two different-ish stories, but one story told in two books. Because even though it was an easy and enjoyable read it didn't bring much to the table.

yeah exactly🤷‍♀️

I just finished it and:
1. The romance my goodness, I definitely agree about how it was all rushed because believe it or not, I missed the part where West confesses his feelings and I had to go back to see where it happened
2. Again I agree about it not having any significant story/plot. I was enjoying myself, sure but I didn't feel like anything was actually happening. In all fairness, for my first pirate type book it was pretty good
3. The ending did leave me wanting to pick up book 2 and yet I don't feel like I want to read it right away. I loved it but not THAT much XD

ahahha i can't believe you missed that section, that's so funny! but yeah it was definitely very sudden.
i'm glad you loved it, even if you didn't love it THAT much!!
