Cheryl Coppens | 603 comments This sis the first book written by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) featuring Cormoran Strike. Strike was in the war in Afghanistan and when he lost a leg he returns to England and becomes a private eye. He is hired by supermodel Lula Landry's brother to prove her death a murder rather than the suicide the police have determined it to be. Strike has a temporary secretary, Robin, who turns out to be helpful solving the case. Robin was my favorite character.

While this didn't have the magical properties of the Harry Potter series (no pun intended) I did really enjoy the story. There were plenty of twists and turns and great characters. At some point I will definitely read the other books in the series.

John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 119 comments I have enjoyed each of the five books in the current series (hoping for more!). Each novel can stand alone; however, you miss out on the development of the Strike and Robin characters if you read them out of order. I would recommend for anyone to read them in series orders to appreciate their development.
