Noonecansinkmyship (Tissa) | 47 comments It starts this month! Just comment whatever you want relating to the book without spoilers and we will discuss it. :)

Malissiaz | 1 comments Started reading this book and glad I bought it. I like examining another point of view from a story most of us know well.

Daphne Palaiologina (empressdaphne) | 9 comments One of the most interesting concepts of the first novel was that Stephenie wanted to experiment with the new for its time idea that vampires can be desirable and young good guys, much like Anne Rice did with her characters in Interview With A Vampire, instead of them being an enemy obstacle to be surpassed by the heroine.

That form of literature was not only groundbreaking in the romance novel department but also revolutionary in that it helped create the market known as YA (Young Adult literature) a teen trend that created a whole new way for books, comics, and movies to tell their narrative.

And here comes Midnight Sun as an explanation of the mindset of this new form of young adult romance hero's mentality. And despite his shortcomings he is a thousand times more chivalric than the heroes of the pulp age books who had disappointed scores of young adult audiences who craved more humane adventures.

I was just a kid when Twilight first came out so thanks for posting about how the book helped solidify YA! I never knew that :D. I do agree that he is much more chivalric than most heroes these days which was why I enjoyed the book so much.

He does do some things wrong, of course (He's only human that turned into vampire? XD), but they always came with the best of intentions and listens to Bella (even if he doesn't agree with her) which can't be said about some other main character these days. What do you guys think? :)

B.B. Swann I kind of understand the backlash Meyers received for her story, especially from the die-hards who don't want their horrific vamps to sparkle, and from the readers who claim Edward is too controlling and bordering on being a pedophile. (He IS chronologically old.) But IT'S A BOOK! He says himself that he was frozen at 17. If anything, Bella is the pedo because she makes it to legal adulthood and marries him. :)

Having read the leaked rough draft Meyers posted on her website so many years ago, I was ecstatic when I heard she'd finally finished the Edward POV. Shout out to her mom for staying on her back to get it done. There were so many questions answered and so much depth added to the story. the scene when they were racing to the ballet studio was incredible! And being able to hear what Edward was really thinking about her solidified my membership on #TEAMEDWARD! He may have come across as controlling in the first book to some, but reading this, we get to see the thoughts behind the actions and they were definitely pure, loving, and respectful... even if they are a bit obsessive exactly like Bella. But hey, that's why I read romance, to obsess over the love story.

Noonecansinkmyship (Tissa) | 47 comments Oh my gosh. Excellent point about the whole Bella and Edward’s age thing! That’s so true but I never realized! Yeah. People just embrace candle culture at this point and adopt what other people’s opinion without actually giving it a shot or forming their own opinion. It’s really sad actually. Sure there are things that I don’t particularly like about the series but there are so many more amazing parts to these books as well! :)

Daphne Palaiologina (empressdaphne) | 9 comments To me the real stalker turned out to be Tyler. After all the events that transpired in the story he suddenly appeared in the epilogue of Twilight and wanted to take Bella to the prom without any previous discussion between them. At least Jacob (one of the rare types of a native American appearing as a desirable young man and not as a barbarian) took the time to try and get to know Bella a tiny little bit!

Karina | 2 comments I really liked this book. As mentioned before, it was nice to have Edward's point of view since this is the first book from his side. At first I thought that the book will be too much as the Twilight and as such that I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I did the first book.

However, it turned out to be great, the same as Twilight (which was the point) but at the same different. I especially enjoyed the scenes were Alice and the rest of them were fabricating evidence for what they were presenting as the accident that caused Bella's injuries and the scenes between Edward and Emmet and Edward Rosalie and Alice at the start of the book were they have their own opinion on what Edward should do with his situation with Bella.

Regarding age discussion, I don't think there's anything wrong with the whole age thing since you can look at the whole situation from multiple different sides. First Bella is older, second Edward is older and third They pretty much even out since yeah Edward is over a hundred years old, but his body has been frozen at 17 close to Bella's age and he is older than her when you look at all the knowledge he has gained over the years in the classroom and out of it.

lexie | 2 comments I love this book SO much!! When I read the first book, I didn't really think he loved her as much as she loved him. This changed my entire perspective of, not only the books, but the movies as well!

My Mom and I also have an inside joke "Bella has the personality of wet cardboard", this also changed my perspective. She's so selfless, she never talked about herself. I loved being able to be able to relate to her more.

The views from Edwards siblings were my favorite though. Really just proved my love for the Cullens. Jasper is still the love of my life

I'm about halfway through the book. I enjoyed Twilight but this one is much, much better. At least Bella isn't as annoying in this

Yeah! I haven't heard of the discussion leader needing to be the one posing the question first actually. My job is just helping prompt the conversation, not to be the tyrant of the conversation. Oh being annoying and commenting on everything is a necessity. :)

Bella isn't the worst female lead out there honestly. Sure she's not the smartest but she's not as bad as other characters I've read. By the way, has anyone else been wondering why Bella didn't email her mom and stepmom ten thousand times before running off in Phoenix? I was always really confused about that.

I Believe that she was in a hurry to evade the tracker that hunted her and also she was a not so wise young lady :)

I don't find Bella very annoying in the books. In the movies though? UGH! worst casting ever. Bella always came off to me as strong in the books. Strong because she CHOSE to exile herself to forks to help her mom. Strong because she resisted Edward more than anyone else did, even though she ended up fawning over him in the end. LOL. And strong because she faced freaking vampires and werewolves AS A HUMAN and not only survived, but owned more than one of them. :)

Bella is strong is her own way! I just found her annoying in Eclipse lol. But there was a time when Stephanie Meyers pointed out that Bella isn't a damsel in distress: she's a human in distress. I think that captures it pretty nicely! :)

In the movies though...*groans* I partly blame the fact that we can't see her inner thoughts combined with the fact that they had to squeeze a lot out that made the book great and Kristen Stewart's expressionless (just my opinion) portrayal of Bella. (Sorry, I respect your opinion if you like the movies and Kristen Stewart. I personally just wasn't a fan. Feel free to talk about how much you liked the movie if you want though! No hate. :) )

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh definitely, Bella was strong and brave in a lot of ways, but she was also very dumb and she continuously hurt Edward and failed to understand him (that's also partially Jacob's fault as he manipulated her though..i just really dislike Jacob). I love the movies, but I agree, Kristen Stewart was just a very poor casting choice.

bookishh (haxxaana_273) | 31 comments I absolutely loved this book. Hearing Edwards point of view just made me love him even more and even though I adore Bella, I realized how naive she was at times. After finishing this book I wanted to hear more of his story and his POV of certain events.

I hated the movies. I don't think they did the books any justice...the acting and casting of most characters were horrible. I admit that I might have enjoyed the movies more if I hadn't read the books first.

ChloeK (chloekreads) | 4 comments Too slow of a pace for me. That meadow scene lasted forever! I feel this book could have been a lot shorter and it would have held my attention better.
The redeeming part of this book was near the end. I loved seeing what happened during the scene at the ballet studio. I never had thought about Edward's side of that scene and it was brilliantly written.

The part where Jacob thought Bella trying to shove him away when he forced a kiss on her was her responding to the kiss always. Without fail. Makes me so mad! And he didn't even care when Bella told him after that she was trying to get away. He and Charlie just celebrated like Jacob forcing a kiss Bella was a great thing. Like what. Excuse me? Someone forced a kiss on your daughter who's obviously enraged at what happened and you're HaPpY???? Yeah sorry. I kind of just went off on a rant there haha. But it's been bothering me for so long.

I wish we could have more of his POV too but sadly, Stephanie Meyer doesn't seem to want to write more of his POVs since she says being inside Edward's head is taxing for her. At least we still have two other books to look forward to. I can see why you like Bella! She's really sweet and I like how we get to see how selfless she is from Edward's POV. It was glossed on but I never realized just how compassionate she was till I read it from Edward's eyes.

I actually haven't gotten there yet. I've been stuck doing work for a while now but I'm happy to hear that you found something you love about the book! I'm really excited for the end now!

I just got done with that meadow scene and god! it was sooo long for no reason.

bookishh (haxxaana_273) | 31 comments @noonecansinkmyship Edward's POV also brings out how brave Bella is. I mean she literally walked into a house of vampires with complete trust that she was safe. It may seem a bit stupid but brave nonetheless.
I would really like Edwards POV of the second book when he leaves her and how he felt in the time he thought she was dead

bookishh (haxxaana_273) | 31 comments Lmaoo yea the meadow scene was really long ....I remember I listened to that chapter through audio book and it was over an hour long
I will admit that she does include some unnecessary information and also repeats alot of stuff

Daphne Palaiologina (empressdaphne) | 9 comments Personally, I enjoyed the meadow scene because the kids were in a moment they could be completely honest and easygoing with each other.

And yes it was a bit slow but it never bored me to sleep and that is a major plus plus for me as a reader. It might be because I am more of an adventure area admirer of a reader though.

Noonecansinkmyship (Tissa) | 47 comments Lol was I the only one that really liked the meadow scene? XD

Well . . . I liked the scene's surroundings and its use as a plot device but reading it from the point of view of a tormented soul gave it an air of brooding melancholy I was not really looking forward to experience.

So I liked it a little bit. . .

Daphne Palaiologina (empressdaphne) | 9 comments And here is something else I remembered! I would like to point out that Midnight Sun gave us a perspective of the old vampire's carriage myth. Just like the Underworld vampire movie (were the vampire assasin Celene saves a young man with her car) the myth always had to do with the undead lord of darkness offering a mortal a ride in a carriage (or car, or bike and even an airplane) with the promise of safe passage that could end up with a bad or a good ending.

Ciera Rae | 2 comments My favorite part about this book isn't even what we learn about Edward, it's getting to know the backstory of the other Cullens! We always just got little bits here and there, but in Midnight Sun we definitely got to know them better.

One of my only problems with the character arcs of the Cullen coven is that we actually did not get our own book with more of their individual backstories.

Imagine if we had an entire paranormal urban fantasy ten book series about this clan or about Victoria . . .

Keira ❤️ | 11 comments It was worth it though. An a amazing book

Poppy | 8 comments I LOVED the meadow scene. I just loved this book in general. It wasn't the smoothest read though because he's always overthinking about every little thing. Overall it's great but I still prefer the original Twilight book because I liked Bella's nonexistent thoughts haha

Daphne Palaiologina (empressdaphne) | 9 comments Twilight is always the lightest read, because Bella is a normal human that discovered the supernatural. In other novels we merely get a few paragraphs and then we are expected to jump in the action immediately instead of learning things gradually.

However, with Midnight Sun we get to see that Edward is one of the most complex young adult romance characters of the 2010s decade.

Hailey (hayhaythebookworm) | 1 comments I feel that throughout this book there was a lot of repeated information, and Edward would often say the same things about Bella multiple times. I thought I would enjoy this book more than twilight cause I was so curious about Edwards thoughts. Turns out they aren't exactly what I had imagined.
