I know. I'm just wondering what they left out.
Journey to the West has a hundred chapters. It starts with Monkey's birth and a lot of his monkey business, goes on to Xuanzang's early life, they start their quest, meet Pig and Friar Sand, then lots and lots of episodic adventures. Probably a lot of those are what's left out.

There are plenty of monkey shenanigans and other interactions with higher powers to get plot line. When you click Read on this, you are clicking it on the abridged version. Some will want to read the complete tale and some will be satisfied to know the gist. It’s up to the reader.
I had a lot of fun listening to this one on audiobook. My husband has a movie called The Forbidden Kingdom, and I recognized some of the characters and places from that movie.
Buddhism had travelled east from India to China, now the monk travels west to find some ancient texts.

There are a lot of asian movies and shows that take a lot from Journey to the West. Especially anime.
