Our Unofficial Book Clubs are fluid, so this is just a place to get a general idea what each one is up to. If a club sings to you, I'd recommend stalking the thread and getting involved to know what's REALLY going on (sounds scary). Even so, the following posts are for Book Clubbers to post when they're planning to start new books. :)

For the book clubbers: treat posting here as if you're informing people on an official forum what's going on in your clubs. I'll use what gets posted here to update the bookshelves (if it's practical).

It would also be awesome if someone from each club could update their thread with the current book being read in [brackets] so it's easier to see where your at in any given series.

Thanks! We'll get this new system fine-tuned eventually.

Via Iain: Me and Anni are "getting the band back together"...

Continuing our Skullduggery Pleasant thread with a re-read to refresh our memory... we only managed 1-2 BRs in 2020, after reading the first 3-4 books in late 2019...

So, we're doing Mortal Coil on New Year's Day... and we'll continue with Death Bringer hopefully not too long after that...

message 9: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments LoL sorry about that! Ya know that deal where it's obvious to you (whoever else that knows) but it's not obvious to anyone else? Yeah, that. =D

We will try to share the info on what's going on in Vagabond Treehouse but I'm not going to add titles to the Thread Title because there are times when there are several different BR's happening at the same time.

Like many people are reading Joe Ledger series and we post about it there. Yet, the chatting about it is done at the pacing of whoever is reading & not tied down to dates.

Vagabond Treehouse is the spot to we use to chat about fantasy/other books. Most of the BR's in there are spontaneous & only take a day or two to setup.

Thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Me and most of the members of the Vagabond Treehouse are Buddy Reading the Shadows of the Apt series throughout 2021 as they release on audio...

First book is scheduled for April 14th, and we'll be reading a book a month until January 2022...

Empire in Black and Gold

Series page summary:

The series is set in a hypothetical universe populated by different kinden. Each kinden is a fictional race of humans, named after (and having certain characteristics of) an insect. Kinden are typically divided into two categories : Apt and Inapt. The Apt do not have magical abilities, but are able to understand, use and design mechanical devices. The Inapt have varying amounts of magical abilities, but cannot use mechanical devices, even those as simple as latches. The series focuses on the attempted conquest of the lowlands by the Wasp-kinden empire.

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Currently Happening @ the Mystery Book Club - Taking a jaunt into another series & reading A Litter of Bones. It's written by Barry Hutchison. We're all fans of his Space Team series. He's been writing a bunch of books for this new series and that has Space Team in tiny limbo. I can attest that this book is good! Very different from Space Team and solid crime story.

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Starting tomorrow, 01/23/21, a few of us are going to start reading The Last Hunter: Collected Edition series by Jeremy Robinson.

We got the bundled audiobook from Audible for one credit. 5 books at around 33+ hours. You can opt to read the ebook on Kindle Unlimited.

We will start with the first book and go from there. Reading at your own pace, etc.

Looks to be a fun, adventure story. Should be good!

Don’t worry about posting here anymore. I was hoping to get stuff added to the bookshelf as they were happening but I think most of the reads happen too fast for my to stay on top of, anyway. Having them on the thread label is perfect.

staying on top of it requires constant vigilance... and who has time for that...

I see a mod noticed Grace Ken's weird testimonial about the magic therapist on the steampunk page :D ... I just had to share that in Random Chatter while it lasted... so weird...

I'm gonna resuscitate this thread, or start a new/similar one... with my implementation of a Buddy Read spreadsheet tab, and now a relatively easier way for me to add Book Club / Series thread books to the list, this seems like the most obvious place for people to nudge me, if I miss anything that should be on the list...

When doing this, I'll try to add new releases and 1st book in each series to the group bookshelves... the rest will probably not be included...

First up, over the next few days, I need to add Mystery Book Club, Vagabond Treehouse, Heartstrikers/DFZ, Laundry Files, Verity Kent, Jack Nightingale, Manners & Monsters/Tournament of Shadows, Cycles of Arawn/Galand/Scour, the Sanderson Secret Projects, and In Death to the list... I could/should probably also include Realm of the Elderlings, Wheel of Time, and Malazan?

For In Death specifically, I'm only going to include 1 book each month, to keep the thread on the list throughout 2023... otherwise it'll dominate the list with 50+ entries...

message 40: by Nirkatze (last edited Dec 17, 2022 01:03PM) (new)

Nirkatze | 21263 comments I'm not sure who might be doing a Wheel of Time book club, but Choko, Julian, and I are doing Wheel of Time book by book, ie: not in a book club thread...

Also there's:
・Wandering Inn [Link]
・Innkeeper Chronicles [Link]
・Murderbot Diaries Sept 1-Nov 1 [Link]
・Time Police, date & link TBD

Lightbringer is currently being used Book-Club style but that might go into book-by-book...

Will the Innkeeper Chronicles thread be moot since Sweep of the Heart is out?

And I still feel like I'm forgetting things...

For a Book Club spreadsheet, I wonder if it could include frequency--like weekly/monthly or at your own pace, TBD, and # of books to date...

My bad on WoT... I was throwing words out off the top of my head without doublechecking...

This spreadsheet is mostly just an extension of the existing BR request / Buddy Read List spreadsheet... not a fully realized sheet with bells and whistles... I just wanted a way to add all the books from book clubs, without needing to do 100 form requests... more of a middle ground... with repeated linking to the thread in the BR list until the end of the book club / series, despite the way I designed it to delete after 30 days have passed...

Series / Club name, thread link, and either series link or book links and start dates, are what's needed to populate the list...

So far, I've done the 5 new releases in the Mystery Book Club, next year, and 1 In Death book per month until December 2021, when the weekly readers will be all caught up...

I'm tempted to remove monthly from the header of that thread, actually... I don't think anyone is reading monthly... it's weekly, or a little late and trying to catch up, or at the whims of the library loan system...

I would love to start a book club dedicated to the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. The first book is One for the Money.

My club member(s) and I would like to use the same format as the Ironman In Death club.

The estimated start date is August 2023.

Please & Thank you.
