Nancy (paper_addict) Has anyone seen the movie Tenet?

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6723592/

It has an interesting premise but it’s difficult to follow mostly because the talking parts are muffled and difficult to hear and the sound effects and music and clear as a bell and LOUD. I spent so much time increasing the volume to try and hear them talk and then scrambling to turn it way down.

Like usual, it leaves you wondering a few things like how they choose how far back in time they can go? How can they change from (view spoiler)

Stoney deGeyter | 10 comments I've seen it three times now. First time was in the theater and I agree with you 100% on the low voices, loud musci/effects. I think I only caught about 1/4 of what they were saying the first time through. Add to that the complications of the time travel dialogue and, well I walked out thoroughly confused.

I've seen it two more times since then and I will say turning the captions on helps A LOT. But I will also say that I'm not all that much less confused. Many of the things you mentioned are still a mystery to me. I just decided to go with it. I love time travel and Tenet was a BIG movie. Great concept and effects.

Nancy (paper_addict) Ya, that’s all you can do is just go with it. I love time travel too and I liked when you get to see something happen then see it again later. A few were unexpected and one was an “I knew it.”

You should. You might need to watch it twice. Once with subtitles. I’m worried trying read what they say I might miss something. There’s a lot visually going on. I will probably watch it again at some point. I hope it comes to a steaming service I already pay for.

Jennifer | 185 comments Its a rental right now, but can purchase it as well. I have been thinking about it. I really liked Inception.

Inception is really good!

I rented Tenet at Redbox. I had a free DVD rental.

Paul (paullev) | 835 comments I saw it last night on HBO. I thought it had some problems, but was by and large excellent, especially the reverse time cinematography Here's my review https://paullevinson.blogspot.com/202...

I saw this a couple of months ago on when it premiered on Now TV in UK.

My personal reaction was that it felt like a soul less, humourless, slog for me. But it was a brilliant concept and the second most mind screwing time travel movie ever made with Primer still holding that number one spot. Like Primer though, there is too much focus on jigsaw plotting, making the journey of watching in utter confusion very hard work without enough injections of entertaining moments. No doubt, the film delivered on what it wanted to deliver and I appreciate it's achievement. But did i enjoy it...not really apart from another campy Brannagh performance and a poignant revelation at the end.

And my god, what an awful sound mix yet again by Nolan. I swear he has a different hearing anatomy than the rest of us.

I love Nolan films but he has slid into too much self indulgence in his last couple of movies, Dunkirk and Tenet, losing the art of mixing entertainment at the same time.

Having said that, this is a monumental time travel film for our group discussion and it IS a memorable film!

Jennifer | 185 comments I watched it last night, with captions on, it was late and I could not have it blasting. I really, really enjoyed this. I am going to watch it again. I felt the cast was amazing, although I agree about Brannagh...there were other choices, who could have been more sinister and have a better accent...what about the guy from John Wick ? Or how about Peter Stormare...regardless it worked.

I wish I had been able to see it in the theater.

Paul (paullev) | 835 comments Agreed about the theater -- the time reversal scenes were already palpable on the TV screen, and they would have even more visceral in a movie theater.

Oh for sure, the movie deserves to be relaesed again on the big screen. It to bad it had limited release due to Covid.

Paul (paullev) | 835 comments Absolutely. Nolan should do a director's cut -- put in a few additional scenes -- and release that to the theaters.
