Top Reads

A Beautiful Place To Die - Malla Nunn
Initial entry in this historical series set in South Africa. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, setting, and characters and look forward to continuing on with this series. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by Saul Reichlin who handled all the accents expertly.

The Red Lotus - Chris Bohjalian
Very good suspense with great characterizations and a too plausible type plot for the times. Listened to audio version which was well narrated by Rebecca Lowman.

Good Reads

Anatomy of a Song: The Oral History of 45 Iconic Hits That Changed Rock, R&B and Pop - Marc Myers
A set of newspaper columns repurposed as a book. For each song usually the writer and performers were interviewed. Some interesting choices and information but wish it had a bit more depth.

High Crimes - William Deverell
A highly entertaining caper featuring "A merry band of Newfoundland smugglers" attempting one big score and the authorities who are trying to thwart them.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9558 comments Good month as usual. You always find the most interesting music-themed books. I loved the first Malla Nunn -- I think Shomeret introduced me to the series, and the 2nd one was excellent also.
