Welsh Literature discussion

Good afternoon!
My name is Steve Miller (No, not THE Steve Miller, but I am THAT Steve Miller) and I am addicted to Welsh literature. Why would I be addicted to welsh literature when I'm not even Welsh? Well I am a Welsh American; my birth surname is Hughes, my adopted surname is Miller. I just found this out 2 years ago, so 54 years of having no real identity have led to me being a little over zealous!

Anyway, thought I'd introduce myself.

Hi Steve, I am the opposite to you. I am not Welsh, but have lived in Wales for over 30 years. Which doesn't make me Welsh, but I feel more like this is home than anywhere else. I'm not sure this list is active any more which is a real shame. Nice to meet you.

Not much activity here, but maybe this will spark some. I'm in Minnesota, but keen on my Welsh ancestry and active in the St. David's Society here. I have a Welsh language/conversation group that meets via Zoom right now. I'm always on the lookout for Welsh authors and books with Welsh characters. Our St. David's Society has a book club that meets every other month.

That's great! There is a group here, but as with a lot of stuff, Covid... Nuff said. I've got a few books in my list that are by Welsh authors, so when I read them, I'll review them if you'd like!

Hi Steve, I'm a bit like you: I'm proud of being Welsh, but live in England (although only just) in Chester. Do you know what part of Wales your ancestors are from?

The most recent Welsh Literature I've read is 'Miriam, Daniel and Me' by Euron Griffith. He normally writes in Welsh, and this is his first book in English. It's about 3 generations in Wales, with the last one born in the 1960s (or thereabouts). I really enjoyed it. I thought it gave a good sense of the Welsh view of the world.

It's published by Seren, an independentl literary press in South Wales, and they sometimes do book launches online, which is how I came to hear about this book. Next time I hear they're doing one I think I'll post details on here in case anyone else wants to go to it.

I'm not Welsh, but I married a Pembrokeshire lass in a small church not far from St David's and have visited Wales a hundred times or more over the years.

Hello everyone!

A rather belated introduction, since I've already posted on another thread, but I'm a former academic whose retirement project is to find and translate Welsh-language novels and short stories that deserve a wider audience. My first translation was "Sioned" by Winnie Parry, and I've moved on to "Cerrig y Rhyd" by the same author. If Parry is representative, there are some holes in the literature available to the English-speaking Welsh diaspora.

I’d much appreciate suggestions for other Welsh works I might add to my translation list. I've two more lined up, "Y Ddau Hogyn Rheini" and "Catrin Prisiard".
