Barb K | 15 comments I was ‘Finn(ished)’ with Finn long before the book ended. What a shallow person: a true putz! I did get involved with the characters and plot, though I thought the novel bogged down a time or two. About the time I considered jumping to the end I got caught up again guessing where the plot was going. The ending surprised me not because it was clever, but because so predictable. So predictable I kept thinking it could not be the ending the author would give the reader. As a dog person, I was continually concerned for Peggy.

I found the author’s Russian dolls an effective literary technique. I was less impressed by some of the dialog, especially between the men – Harry and Finn’s conversations often sounded to me like the way we women wished men conversed. While not real impressed with dialog, I did fall in love with the descriptions of characters’ homes and surroundings. And, yes, once again I did get Google out to get geography of the places.

I found literary technique of going back and forth between characters kept my interest longer, noticing Finn’s chapters significantly longer.

I do have confession to make. In the first chapter I thought it was a mother and daughter coming back from skiing. If I had not known the author’s name, I believe I would have thought it was an early Lisa Jewell novel. PS—save me a seat at Ruby’s The Jackdaw – tell Peggy and Buster I’ll bring doggie cookies!
