What were your thoughts about Herman Melville's posthumously published novella? Did you enjoy it?

At our meeting on January 9th, we discussed but were not limited to:
• Innocence as a virtue versus naïvete as a weakness
• Were Melville's characters types or characters?
• Verbosity of the book
• Symbolism (biblical, allusions, etc)
