Are you new to Star Wars Books and don't know where to start? Are you looking for a specific book on your favorite character or set in your favorite SW era? Are you looking for reads to fullfill some of our SW Yearly Challenge prompts?

Or have you just finished a great SW book and want to point others to that gem?

You can use this thread for asking/giving SW recs.

For SW Legends newbies - check out Akindle's thread:

How to read Star Wars EU for movie watchers

She recommends these as good starting points for people interested in what happened in the galaxy far far away after the events of Return of the Jedi:

These are all Legends books (not canon).

The Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn:
Heir to the Empire
Dark Force Rising
The Last Command

Heir to the Empire (Star Wars The Thrawn Trilogy, #1) by Timothy Zahn Dark Force Rising (Star Wars The Thrawn Trilogy, #2) by Timothy Zahn The Last Command (Star Wars The Thrawn Trilogy, #3) by Timothy Zahn

X-Wing Series (10 books) - for fans of X-wing fighter pilots
starting with Rogue Squadron by Michael A. Stackpole

Rogue Squadron (Star Wars X-Wing, #1) by Michael A. Stackpole

We're going to read Heir to the Empire in February '21 as our Group read. You can join in here.

Rebecca | 961 comments Also Tales from the New Republic for Legends.

message 6: by Zuzana, Jedi Apprentice (new)

Zuzana | 1641 comments Mod
It's already there, Rebecca. Any other suggestions?

message 7: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 961 comments Whoops, missed that one being on the list. I think there is a collection of short stories called Lost Tribes of the Sith, or something like that for old Republic and or KOTOR era.

It is Lost Tribe of the Sith: The Collected Stories by John Jackson Miller.

Yes, you're both right. But it's not an anthology because all of the stories were written by the same author (J.J. Miller)

message 10: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 961 comments Ah. So that's the difference between anthology and collection.

Thank you, Akindle. I will add tales of the Bounty Hunters to my post.

I fear that the first book isn't an anthology. It seems that Landry Q. Walker wrote all the stories in the collection.

Oh, we could change it as well, to have collections and anthologies.

message 14: by TAMRA (new)

TAMRA L | 17 comments I believe Canto Bight for the new canon could also work for this category.

Yep, I think so.

Don Brown (donkbrown) | 139 comments What about Journey to Star Wars: the Last Jedi - The Legends of Luke Skywalker? It is a junior novel like Tales From a Galaxy Far, Far Away, Vol. 1: Aliens and is also short stories by a single author.

Akindle wrote: "Oh, we could change it as well, to have collections and anthologies."

There's no need to change it. We can use collections of short stories as a prompt in another challenge.
Anyway, if you want to read a short story collection for our SW Yearly challenge, you can, you'll just have to fit it into another category.

TAMRA wrote: "I believe Canto Bight for the new canon could also work for this category."

Yes, Canto Bight is an anthology. Thanks, TAMRA. I'll add it to the list.

So there are two anthologies to be published in 2021:

Star Wars Insider: The Fiction Collection Volume 1 - March 2021
& Star Wars Insider: The Fiction Collection Volume 2 - September 2021

Star Wars Insider The Fiction Collection Volume 1 by Jason Fry

The first book is called Boba Fett: The fight to survive, but I don't know if they're canon or legends sorry xD.

I believe they are Legends. IDK, if they are any good, though. Check reviews on Google and Goodreads.

I read that series. It's Legends. Published by Scholastic these books are "middle-grade". For children 8-13 yo. Doesn't mean that an adult can't enjoy them. They're short reads, full of action but kinda forgettable.

message 24: by Cap (new)

Cap | 3 comments Ok thanks. :)
I wish you all a nice evening!

If you're looking for good SW middle grade books, I can recommend Jedi Apprentice series by Jude Watson. They're about young Obi-Wan & his adventures with Qui-Gon.

Any recommendation for Disney Star Wars era non-fiction?
Sarah is looking for recs for our non-fiction SW challenge prompt.

Can anybody recommend Legends books with female main character other than Leia? Thx.

message 29: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 961 comments Republic Commandos series by Karen Travis, Into the Void, and Jedi Healer are the ones that come to mind quickly.

message 30: by Zuzana, Jedi Apprentice (new)

Zuzana | 1641 comments Mod
Thanks, Rebecca. I'm surprised that Republic Commandos have a female MC, I expected they were focused on the clones.

message 31: by Allyssa, Former Moderator/Group Founder (new)

Allyssa Smith | 791 comments Mod
Maybe not a MC, but Star Wars Rouge Planet has a female that isn’t Leia

message 32: by Zuzana, Jedi Apprentice (new)

Zuzana | 1641 comments Mod
Thanks, Akindle. I need a female main character for the Yearly challenge.

I'm quite surprised how few books with a female lead other than Leia are there in the Legends line.

message 33: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 961 comments The main female lead in the Republic Commandos books is a Jedi. You get her perspective, the Clones, and several other point of view characters.

message 34: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 961 comments There may be others that have female leads or at least female point of view side characters from Legends, those are just the ones I know of. Not sure about the Vong war books.
