I don't think you need to worry Alya most books fit something and our Captains will keep us on the straight and narrow

Ashleigh | 915 comments Hi everyone! This is my 6th time playing UNO I believe! Very excited to get started as this is my favourite challenge.

To our new players: if you need any help, advice, etc, please feel free to ask myself or Hailey :)

Also, I have a copy of the planning spreadsheet linked in one of the top comments. Can everyone check they can access and add to it? I think I've got the settings right, but just to double check.

Sarah | 1012 comments Hi all! So excited for Uno again! I'll do a better introduction later, just popping in for now.

I can open the spreadsheet, but do not have edit permission; it's view only.

Hi everyone! It’s my first time playing but the game really looks fun.

I managed to access and update the planning spreadsheet so all good here.

Ashlee | 370 comments Hi Everyone! I am Ashlee. This is also my 6th time playing UNO. It is definitely my favorite challenge!

I am able to open and edit the spreadsheet. :)

An oops on my part: I can see but not edit the Team Spreadsheet and I can see and edit the Planning Spreadsheet. I think this is correct.

message 24: by Denise (new)

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 271 comments Hi all! I'm checking in! I tried yesterday, but the thread was still locked, so i sent friend requests to the team members.

I can't seem to get into the team spreadsheets, but I'm on my phone at the moment, so I'll check later.

I'll give a better intro later, but I wanted to make sure i got checked in.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 1155 comments I can get into the spreadsheets - I have to admit to not being a great ahead planner but I am a reading machine and will try my best to do what is needed

I do have a YELLOW 3 Love which has an H character = Heed

am i missing where to put color of cover on SS?

message 26: by Hailey (new)

Hailey Thompson (haileymary) | 169 comments I can edit the planning sheet but only view the Team Sheet. I am not always great at planning my reads ahead, I do know I have a few that I am wanting to read but I don't know every card that each book will fit in. I will work on adding a few though to the planning spreadsheet.

message 27: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments I can edit the planning sheet, added a book for the 7 red which I'll read first. Otherwise I don't really plan that much...
The Velvet Turnshoe (Abbess of Meaux, #2) by Cassandra Clark

I was happy to see all those reds, I have loads saved up and the cards did not fall much into red for my team last year at all. But I don't want to be too excited and not let everyone else have a chance at the coloured cards!

In case that didn't give it away, I've been joining this challenge for years. In fact the first Uno challenge was my very first team challenge, and I've been hooked on them ever since. I owe a lot of thanks to the original mods for introducing me to something that has given me a lot of enjoyment over the years.

Lovely to see some people I'm already friends with, (Ashleigh, Denise, and Marie), and I look forward to getting to know all rest of you.

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy | 219 comments I added about a dozen books to the planning spreadsheet, most of which fit multiple categories. Will we be assigned which books to read for which hands?

message 29: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 1155 comments Sarah for me you can have as many coloured cards as you want - the colours are the hardest part for me. I think because i read a lot of mystery books which are all dark and looming colours. I think this might be year 4 for me like Sarah I was already friends with Ashleigh and i think Hailey maybe we played a challenge together before.

Sarah and I have played many challenges together she is better at spreadsheets than me.

I cannot wait for the start and as a retiree, locked in locked down and perhaps ought to be locked up I have loads of time to read at the moment.

Oh and I am in The UK - where is everyone else located?

My mother is immunocompromised, so we're locked down here too. I get how it can feel oppressive and like you have nothing but time.

I'm in the northeast US.

message 31: by Hailey (new)

Hailey Thompson (haileymary) | 169 comments I may have played with Marie before but I am absolutely horrible with names.

The colored cards cause me a lot of anxiety because I struggle to find books that I will like that will fulfill both the number and the color needed.

I am not sure how Ashleigh likes to do things but I have never assigned cards to people, it has always been a free for all but when you complete the book to add all the cards that would fit with the book just so we can move things around if needed.

I am located in the US as well.

I’m in the UK too, Marie.

message 33: by Michele (new)

Michele Abrams Lehn (mabramslehn) | 428 comments I can access but can not edit. I would appreciate some guidance on how the captains want us to play the hands. In past seasons we have simply read our books, list what cards the book fulfills and allowed the captains to choose how to best apply them. What is the plan for this team? Thank you in advance.

I live in Minnesota

message 36: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 1155 comments I have never played where cards are assigned either. I think I would find that difficult. I have lots of challenges on the go and try to get books that will work for all of them

message 37: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 915 comments I'm from the UK too :)

I've never played where we assign cards. I think it's easier just to read whatever and then fit them in where best.

message 38: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee | 370 comments I am from Pennsylvania, USA.

I also like that you can pretty much read anything for this challenge.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification! I just wasn't sure because the rules seemed to imply that we couldn't read for multiple hands at once; we have to complete one hand and then move on to the next. And if that's incorrect, I'm sure someone will let me know. ☺️

message 40: by Denise (last edited Jan 22, 2021 07:25AM) (new)

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 271 comments The points for the hands don't count until the hand is finished, but you can have multiple hands started. Hand one must be completed before hand two can be counted, even if you finish hand two before hand one, etc. Does that make sense?

Yes it does. Thanks!

Alya | 111 comments So what are we doing right now? Filling in books with covers of certain colours and marking which prompt they work for?

message 43: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 1155 comments Alya wrote: "So what are we doing right now? Filling in books with covers of certain colours and marking which prompt they work for?"

I have only noted down the one i have for a specific colour and task I will work out others as i go along

message 44: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 915 comments Alya wrote: "So what are we doing right now? Filling in books with covers of certain colours and marking which prompt they work for?"

You can fill in the planning spreadsheet with any book you're planning on reading, and if they fit any of the colour prompts, that's a bonus.

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 271 comments I usually wait to see what cards we draw. I am not much of a planner when it comes to reading. I always find something that fits somewhere.

Do we have a minimum page count?

I think we have our February hands already. That's what it seems is listed in the team spreadsheet.

Also, I think the rules specified that books had to be one hundred or more pages long.

Minimum page count of 100 pages unless it's a children's book. This link explains more: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
