We generally don't have people sign up for specific cards in the various hands. However, to help prevent a last minute scramble to cover the color cards and WD4 cards, we have people sign up for these. Also, it helps prevent people from duplicating efforts.
If you sign up for one of these cards and aren't able to cover it for some reason, please just post in the thread or send one of the captains a message and someone else from the team will cover. Life happens!
Color Cards - APRIL HANDS
COMPLETED
Wild Draw 4 Cards - APRIL HANDS
WD4 cards duplicate one of the color cards we were dealt. For example, we have a 9 Blue card in Hand 6. We can duplicate this card to complete the WD4 card in Hand 5. We can only duplicate each color card once. So if you claim a WD4 card, please let us know which color card you duplicate so we don't 'double dip' in the duplication.

Pump Up the Volume! And get your flashy (pink) accessories ready! April Mini Challenge
This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players. This month we are going to go through life as a teenager in the 80s.
Do you remember the fashion and the gadgets? Those really bright colours? *grin*
As a team, you need to read for the specified tasks that have been given to you. Some have to be done, others are optional but will gain your team more points.
◈ Your team has to complete 38 main tasks.
◈ For each completed task, your team will receive 10 points.
◈ For completing these 38 tasks, your team will receive 30 bonus points.
◈ There are 21 additional optional tasks.
◈ For each completed additional task, your team will receive 10 points.
◈ These optional tasks do not award a completion bonus.
◈ Tasks (main and/or optional) do not have to be read in order.
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on April 15, 9am UTC

I’m Judith, your captain for the next 3 months on an apparent 80's movie marathon. I’m curious to see where this theme goes, I’m sure the mods have stuff up their sleeves. I'll bring the popcorn :)
Anyone new to UNO this year? This game is one of my favorites and is fairly straightforward. But if you’ve never played, things can get confusing. Please ask any questions you may have. Once we get going things will probably start making sense fairly quickly.

I've been a captain for the past several years and have been teaming up with Nanci for captain-ing for the past couple. I think this is our third go-round together. I captain on most team challenges over in the Nothing But Reading Challenges (NBRC) group and recently became a mod of that group.
I work as an economist for the Environmental Protection Agency in the Toxic Chemical Office. I have an almost 3 year old toddler who keeps me very busy. And I live in Maryland on the East Coast of the US.
I read most things, but lean towards fantasy, sci-fi, romance, nonfiction, and thrillers. Horror is not my favorite but as long as the book isn't really gorry, I can enjoy it well enough.

And we don't require completion posts, in general we have people fill out the Tracking Spreadsheet. This allows Nanci and me to move books around to get things to fit. Generally, we can make almost any book work. The link to this spreadsheet is also in my important link post so you don't have to hunt for it.
I'm putting a few of my books on the tracking sheet to help people figure out how to fill it out. That being said, I realize not everyone likes spreadsheets or access sometimes can be an issue. If that is the case, no worries! Just post the information (book title, date read, cards it works for & how) in this thread and Nanci and I will take care of it.
Also, I will try and keep post 8 as updated as possible so people know what cards still need to be completed. This month, we'll be needing a lot of 3's!

I'm Nanci the Co-captain and so happy to have you as part of our team! We are most fortunate to have Judith as our Captain. She is super organized, doesn't stress and our teams have always had lots of fun!
A little about me...
I live just outside of Richmond, VA on the east coast of the US. I am a mom to three adult children and a grandmom of 6 littles ages 10years-9 months. I worked for 9 years as an elementary classroom teacher and 23 years as an elementary school counselor. I adored my work, but equally love retirement! Normally, my husband of 42 years and I can be found traveling as much as possible both locally and abroad.
My favorite genre is historical fiction, but I also enjoy non-fiction, fiction, literary, and thrillers. Romance is not really my thing, but if it's not too sickeningly sweet it's ok.
Really looking forward to getting to know you all and please feel free to ask any questions about the game!

The link to the team tracking SS gives me a message that I need to request to edit. I don't know if this is because I'm on my new Mac computer or something else.
Anyway, I will take two of the color cards.
*9blue

*6yellow

It can also be used as a WD4 card.

*1green

If someone else wants to claim 1green, no problem. Just let us know!

Blech. No, I ALWAYS forget to check the permissions. You'd think by now I'd remember. And it's not obvious to me because I can do whatever to the spreadsheet as it's creator.
It should work for anyone with the link now. Let me know if it doesn't.

Also, Palisades Park will only work with a place of New Jersey if you can't get more specific for the location. Like a town or whatever. We can only use the smallest location denomination known. They've tightened up on that rule some over the past couple years.
So I just want to check that there isn't a more specific location for the story.

I primarily read romance (historical, contemporary, and suspense) as well as thrillers and urban fantasy with the occasional sci-fi thrown in. I read almost exclusively adult, I've mostly stopped reading YA with a few rare exceptions.
Hi! My name is Caroline, and apparently I am the other co-captain. I feel like I am barging in on Judith and Nanci's show, but I will try to help out as much as possible! This is my first time playing UNO, so I am still learning. Just let me know what you need me to do. I am still in high school, and I enjoy reading YA Fantasy and Sci-fi, but I am trying to get into Historical Fiction as well.
Does Scythe
by Neal Shusterman work for 9 Red? Since the cover is red and the author starts with N? If so, I would like to claim the second 9 Red.

Also, I can read A Court of Thorns and Roses
by Sarah J. Maas for a WD4 card duplicating 9 Red. This works because there is a character named Nesta.

Caroline, this book is coming up as about 30% red on Tineye. Even though we don't need to strictly adhere to Tineye (it can be very funky with colors) it's a good tool when unsure.
Team, to me this looks about 50% red. What do you all think? Does it work or not? Fingers crossed!

9blue is going back up for grabs!
With the ruling being that the location has to be as specific as possible New Jersey for setting is not as specific as Palisades Park, the town in NJ.

I'd say so.
I'm updating the color card/WD4 card post now.

Great, I'll add it to the tracking sheet.

I think it's a pretty even split between yellow and red. I think tineye is calling some of the darker reds brown so it's throwing off the percentages.
I'm leaning towards yes but wouldn't mind one more opinion just because it's a close call.

I do have a lot of third in series books I wanted to get to soon and it seems we definitely need them with 14! 3 cards.

No worries! Honestly I mainly only added the books I'm reading for color cards and those I am reading for NBRC BOMs in Feb. I haven't gotten any further than that.
I haven't been much for planning out my reading. I've been more of a mood reader lately.

Grr, I thought I fixed this. Give me a minute.

We can only duplicate each color card once so the 2 unclaimed WD4 cards can read for by duplicating any 2 of the following:
1 Green
6 Yellow
2 Yellow
0 Red
1 Green

There is a countdown clock in post 7 for you to check the start time relevant to your timezone. We are an international team so I know it'll vary between team members.

I was actually at the bookstore today and looked at the book itself. I'd say we can use it for 9 Red. Caroline, I'm going to put you down for reading this one for a WD4 card.

There are 90 other spots that need to be filled with books not subject to cover color restrictions.
And there will be more opportunities to claim color cards for the March and April hands.

I can do either or both I found

Disregard I can still do either or both but my book doesn't qualify for the yellow

We used to have to rely strictly on TinEye and it had to be more than 50%. UNO has changed that rule as sometimes a book looks so much like a certain color, yet TinEye says no. It can be very funky. Now if you're unsure about a color you ask others on your team. If we still don't have a solid answer the captain or co-captain can take it to the captain's chat and ask there.
Your "Time In Between" very pretty cover doesn't look like mostly yellow to me, so my vote would be no.
Anyone else have an opinion?

Awesome,, Judith! It always helps to see something in person.
I'm a bit jelly that you were in a bookstore today! Haha!

I typically read 4-5 books per month, and will read pretty much anything; but I'm usually drawn to True Crime, History, Historical Fiction, and Classic Lit.
This is my third year participating in UNO and I am *so excited*. Seriously, I have been looking forward to this for months. 😂 I don't usually plan my books to fit into the challenge, bc I've found that pretty much every book I read will count for something. 🤷♀️If there's a particular card we're missing though, I'm willing to plan ahead, so just let me know!
I'm ready to get started!
