Anyone have ideas on a first book??

Have you read The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler?

It's supposed to be really good! My librarian aunt got it for me for Xmas so I trust her judgment :)

Oooh that sounds like a good recommendation then :) Anyone else have thoughts?

That one seems just a tad too dark for me especially with everything going on now. My recommendation is The Starless Sea from the author of The Night Circus.

I am interested in reading The Vanishing Half. It seems like a unique take on the racial divide and particularly relevant rn (hopefully not dark). The Vanishing Half

I read this years ago for a class in college. It was good!

I'd be down to read either of the other two suggested. I haven't heard about the starless sea but I have heard the vanishing half is good

I am happy with either as well. I reserved them at the library in preparation!

Anyone have final thoughts on book choice? Sounds like either Vanishing Half or Starless Sea... Maybe we can try to pick one and meet (virtually) toward end of March?
