I am definitely prefer short series in general. They are not dragging as much as long series and I like that the plot has a more specific direction while providing effective character arcs in a reasonable amount of pages.

I agree I prefer shorter series. They are much more engaging and their plots are better developed. This also eliminates filler books. Long series are only good when you LOVE the characters and don’t want to say goodbye to them. Or if the author makes a cohesive and interesting plot that lasts throughout (and each book is interesting on its own)

Exactly! Thank you! Filler books are my main gripe 😂. The plot flows so much better and the books do not feel too overwritten as a result. The way some authors can wrap up a lot and focuses on quality (instead of quantity) in fewer pages is mind blowing and so satisfying to experience.

YES. I think it shows more talent when an author can write a great story in less pages. OO overwritten books are one of my pet peeves, let me imagine! SHORTER SERIES FOR THE WIN!

*high five* Some trilogies made me more emotional than longer series. Although I am not against trying long series, I prefer that each book is short. Do you read long series?

*High Five* To be honest no, I don’t read long series, I don’t have the patience for them. I love being emotional for short periods of time because it makes it more intense. 300 pages is the perfect amount of pages in a book but I am good with 300-500. (I’ll read longer books but I prefer shorter ones)

Shorter series! Trilogies are the sweet spot for me as I feel like duologies aren't developed enough (unless the books are longer, like Strange the Dreamer). Longer series can be good, but often contain filler books and stretch things out too much.

WOW we all agree!! Yes trilogies are the perfect length. Not to underdeveloped and they don’t tend to drag!

300 pages is perfect, I agree with you. While reading books of this length, it show that the author knows what they’re doing and the outcome does not feel lazy at all. Most of my favorite books don’t exceed 500 pages. Now, I am looking for more fantasy standalones as well. Long series can be overwhelming, so I take long breaks between books in the series.

I generally say that I like trilogies, but I definitely have some longer running series that I keep up with. There's something nice to them. The only issue is when they run TOO long. I need to feel like I have a grasp on the pacing and I know roughly when the end will be. If I start to feel like we're wasting time so the author can milm more money before getting around to the finale then I get annoyed.

YES it shows that they are able to convey their story in a short amount of time and you are able to connect to the characters without a lot of drag.
