Richard Kenneth Conde | 310 comments The last time I read this book was back when it was reading for our English Literature class in high school. Let me gather my thoughts and see what I recall without spoiling anything.

The intimate view into what life was like in another era or time in history was the chief thing that made classics interesting to me. I liked being reminded that the world hasn't always been the way it is now, and the comparison also made the things that transcend time show up more sharply. The detailed exploration of Jane's relationship with the arguably abusive Mr. Rochester was fascinating.

Jane Eyre was a good choice among other classics for someone unfamiliar with them, because the writing style was less dense than, say, Charles Dickens. It made it more accessible and less tedious. It also had a faintly mystical air that may be attractive to fans of the fantasy genre. The gothic atmosphere would make it interesting to a modern reader who enjoyed darker stories. It's also not as depressing as something like Wuthering Heights. It's slow at times, but the plot twists enough to stay interesting. Definitely worthwhile reading.

Hannah | 1 comments I read Jane Eyre as part of my English degree, and I have to say it’s one of my favourite books. Although classics can sometimes appear daunting reads, this one is definitely worthwhile! Jane, to me, is an interesting protagonist and I throughly enjoyed her character development amongst the beautifully gothic environments of Brontë’s text. I hope people enjoyed/are enjoying this text as much as I did! :)

Alysa | 23 comments I read this book for fun about 2-3 years ago and it was a really good read. I agree with it being not that tedious seeing as I was like 12 when I read it and I got through it and liked it. I also don't read a lot of classics, the only other classic that I read for fun was Journey to the center of the Earth and I really can't remember much about it. I liked the more mysterious atmosphere and thought that the plot twists were interesting as well.
