I’ve been meaning to read this ever since I saw a preview of a movie made based on this book. I was just curious how the attitudes were like back then in that particular setting. I wanted to see how the snobbishness of the elite class were presented, and how Jane Austen wrote the protagonist on how she dealt with the snobbishness. I wonder if it is still prevalent in today’s modern society. And this would be great to see how the members of the group here would share how the elites country acts in terms of feeling privilidged in their various societies nowadays.
I have read this and it is a great book. It's interesting because even though my primary language is spanish, I love reading in english and basically 95% of my reading is in english. However, with this book it was difficult for me to keep up in english, so I tried it in spanish and finished it with no problem. I guess the narrative in classics it's different and more complex. Don't get me wrong, I love the narrative in classics it's just sometimes those are hard to read. I don't know if anyone agrees? The movie for me, was watchable. I enjoyed it but the plot was way too fast for someone who hasn't read the book. But overall good.
I know I must be wrong because pride and prejudice is one of the most widely loved and enjoyed books of all time, but I just found it boring.

There are many who so very much love this book. There are also quite a number who find that they did not like this book. I have spoken to many people in Good Reads about this book. For the most part it was positive, and since I like reading about what was life like in a particular era, I was interested in this book.
However, most of the men I have talked to about this book, they find the book as too "female-centric" that it was too effeminate for their testosterone-driven male self. I would tend to agree as I am a male myself, at least the last time I checked haha. Men tend to like books that are not slow paced or lacking in action, as they say boring, And also, that they tend to shy away from the romance genre. Perhaps it is a macho culture, or perhaps it is something else.
Then again, the majority of women I've spoken to about this book offers glowing positive remarks about this book. And they cannot say enough loving thoughts about Jane Austen and her wonderful book.
Perhaps there is some valid points in that book Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus.
pride and prejudice is probably my favorite book. i could talk about austen’s sublte commentary on societal views on men and women during the time for hours. if anyone would ever like to discuss the book with me please feel free! don’t want to spoil anything (but let’s be honest, this book has been out for AWHILE).
I haven't read the book (though I do have intentions to), but I was in the dramatized play written by Kate Hamill. I was Lady Catherine de Bourgh and found the experience very fun. All of us in the cast really thought it would be boring doing a play based on a Jane Austen book, but we were wrong. The social intrigue was very fascinating to be part of (especially from the more villainous point of view), the romance was beautiful, the bond of the sisters very tentative with an underlying current of firm knowledge that they will always be there for each other (cheesy, but true), and the conflict very tense and heart-wrenching (to me, at least).Of course, this is from the viewpoint of someone who was in a play that took liberties in its writing, and dramatized to make more fun and enjoyable for the audience. I don't know if I will have the same opinion on the book after I finally get to it, but here's to hoping!
I read the book couple months ago. It's a very fluent love story. I enjoyed to read 1800's England. Goodreads to everyone!

I love the connection between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. That game between the two makes it interesting and is the way to meet and find the truth of the two.
Jane Austen's simple writing is great because it brings history to life with her emotions and landscapes.."
I agree with you on that one. Their interactive banter is very entertaining. No wonder this book is timeless.
I recently started reading this book and I am enjoying it so much. Haven’t finished it yet because I’ve been trying not to read it in one seating just so I can really enjoy the storytelling.I love Elizabeth Bennet and her way of reading people’s true intentions, but on the other hand Jane just bores me and I find myself having no interest whatsoever in her or Mr. Bingley.
I haven’t watched the movie before but some people have recommended it before so I’ll give it a go after finishing the book.
In my opinion Price and prejudice is way better than Sense and sensibility, which I found a bit tedious to read, maybe it’s just that I’m starting to adapt to the pace of classic books!
I re-read this book while in the hospital recovery room back in late July to early August. I wondered at the time, besides being a period piece of literature, would it have been classified as a romance.... and if people at that generation classified books as romance. It's too bad we can't read interviews of that generation of readers.
