Pepita | 63 comments 29. A book you consider comfort reading. The Quiet Gentleman by Georgette Heyer 13/2/2021... Georgette Heyer is one of the authors I can reread over and over again for setting, language, characterization and humour and an uncanny ability to make her characters as relevant today as in regency times.
24. A book about racism or race relations. The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson 15/3/2021....set in Kentucky in 1930s-40s the story covers a period when 'NO COLOREDS' was accepted signage to maintain segregation of races and in this particular case also to separate the 'blue people' from mixing with 'whites'. Not understanding that their blue skin was a result of a medical condition they were also denied the right to marry 'whites' due to the miscegenation laws of the day.
