Love is in the air. Different cultures and different countries have their own unique way of celebrating.
Duration: Six Months from your start date.
Level 1: 1 task from each country.
Level 2: 2 or more tasks from each country.

Tasks

1. ARMENIA
According to the custom, when the bride and groom enter their wedding reception, typically at the groom's house, they break a plate for good luck, then are given lavash and honey by the groom's mother. They balance the bread on their shoulders to ward off evil and eat spoonfuls of honey to symbolize happiness.

💍 Read a book with a MC who is a baker.
💍 Read a book with the word honey in the text. (Give a partial sentence and page/loc #).
💍 Read a book where an item gets broken.

2. CZECH REPUBLIC
Before a Czech bride and groom tie the knot, an infant is placed on the couple's bed to bless and enhance their fertility. Once they've wed, guests shower them with rice, peas, or lentils—also to promote fertility.
💍 Read a book where a character has a baby.
💍 Read a book where a character takes a shower. (Give a partial sentence and page/loc #).
💍 Read a book where a character is blessed. (Your interpretation).

3. CONGO
While most about-to-be marrieds brim with excitement and anticipation, Congolese brides and grooms must keep their happiness in check. During their entire wedding day, from ceremony to reception, the two are not allowed to smile. If they do, it would mean they aren't serious about marriage.

💍 Read a book with a character who is serious. Tell us their name.
💍 Read a book where the authors initials are in the word CONGO.
💍 Read a book where the first letter of each word of the title is in the word SMILE. (Must be at least two words)

4. GERMANY
In their first bit of housekeeping together, German couples traditionally clean up piles of porcelain dishes that their guests have thrown on the ground to ward off any evil spirits. The lesson of this "Polterabend": While working together, the two partners can face any challenge thrown their way.

💍 Read a book where the MC has a partner.
💍 Read a book where two people clean up.
💍 Read a book where someone does a ritual to ward off evil spirits or bad luck. Ex. Throwing salt over your shoulder or avoiding a black cat. (Tell us the ritual)

5. GREECE
Taking the term "groomsman" literally, on his wedding day, a Greek groom's best man, or "koumparos," becomes his barber when he pulls out a razor and shaves his pal's face. But the groom's day also has a sweet side: After he's been freshly shaved, his new mother-in-law will feed him honey and almonds.

💍 Read a book where someone shaves.
💍 Read a book where MC has a best man ( can be a husband, good friend, or any other thing you can think of).
💍 Read a book where a character eats either honey or almonds. (Give a partial sentence and page/loc #)

6. GUATEMALA
When the newlyweds arrive, it's a tradition that the groom's mom breaks a white ceramic bell filled with grains like rice and flour to bring prosperity to the couple.

💍 Read a book where a bell is rung (can be a doorbell, church bell or any other bell you can think of).
💍 Read a book where a character eats rice. (Give a partial sentence and page/loc #).
💍 Read a book with a mother in-law as a character. (Who is it?)

7. JAPAN
On her wedding day, a Japanese bride celebrating a traditional Shinto ceremony wears white from head to toe, including makeup, kimono, and a hood called a "tsunokakushi." White denotes her maiden status, and the hood hides the so-called "horns of jealousy" she feels towards her mother-in-law.

💍 Read a book where a character is jealous.
💍 Read a book with a white cover.
💍 Read a book where a character either wears a hood or a kimono. (Tell us who)

8. LEBANON
In Lebanon, the wedding celebration, known as the Zaffe, gets off to a rowdy start with music, belly dancing, and shouting at both the groom's and bride's homes courtesy of the couple's friends, family, and, occasionally, professional dancers and musicians. Eventually, everyone ends up at the bride's house, where the couple is showered with blessings and flower petals as they leave for the ceremony.
💍 Read a book where a character goes dancing.
💍 Read a book where a character shouts. (Who was it?)
💍 Read a book about flowers.

9. PERU
In Peruvian weddings, the cake is typically assembled with ribbons attached to charms, one of which is a fake wedding ring. During the reception, all the single women in attendance participate in the "cake pull." Each participant grabs a ribbon, and the single lady who pulls out the fake wedding ring, per tradition, will be the next to get married.
💍 Read a book where ribbon is in the text. (Give a partial sentence and page/loc #).
💍 Read a book where a character eats cake.
💍 Read a book where a character is single.

10. ROMANIA
In Romania, before the wedding, guests work together to playfully "abduct" the bride, whisking her away to an undisclosed location and demanding a "ransom" from the groom. Typical requests? A few bottles of alcohol, or—for those looking to really make the groom sweat—singing a love song in front of the entire party.
💍 Read a book where a character is kidnapped.
💍 Read a book where a character sweats. (Tell us whom)
💍 Read a book where a character goes to a party.

1. ARMENIA
According to the custom, when the bride and groom enter their wedding reception, typically at the groom's house, they break a plate for good luck, then are given lavash and honey by the groom's mother. They balance the bread on their shoulders to ward off evil and eat spoonfuls of honey to symbolize happiness.

3. CONGO
While most about-to-be marrieds brim with excitement and anticipation, Congolese brides and grooms must keep their happiness in check. During their entire wedding day, from ceremony to reception, the two are not allowed to smile. If they do, it would mean they aren't serious about marriage.

💍 Read a book where a character eats rice. (Give a partial sentence and page/loc #).

Finale by Stephanie Garber [2/25/21] ★★★

Fumbled by Alexa Martin (Poppy shouts at T.K during an argument) [2/2/21] ★★★
💍 Read a book about flowers.

9. PERU
In Peruvian weddings, the cake is typically assembled with ribbons attached to charms, one of which is a fake wedding ring. During the reception, all the single women in attendance participate in the "cake pull." Each participant grabs a ribbon, and the single lady who pulls out the fake wedding ring, per tradition, will be the next to get married.

Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata [2/21/21] ★★★★ (Ruby sweats when she's nervous)

According to the custom, when the bride and groom enter their wedding reception, typically at the groom's house, they break a plate for good luck, then are given lavash and honey by the groom's mother. 3. CONGO
While most about-to-be marrieds brim with excitement and anticipation, Congolese brides and grooms must keep their happiness in check. During their entire wedding day, from ceremony to reception, the two are not allowed to smile. If they do, it would mean they aren't serious about marriage.

💍 Read a book about flowers.
Mum's the Word Kate Collins 07/19/21

A few bottles of alcohol, or—for those looking to really make the groom sweat—singing a love song in front of the entire party.

💍 Read a book where a character is kidnapped. Never Never: Part Two Colleen Hoover

💍 Read a book with a character who is serious. Tell us their name - Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay by Elena Ferrante - 18/04/21 (Pietro)

💍 Read a book where the MC has a partner - Partners in Crime by Agatha Christie - 02/06/21

💍 Read a book where someone shaves - Diary of a Drug Fiend by Aleister Crowley - 26/05/21

💍 Read a book with a mother in-law as a character - Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams - 17/03/21 (Ida Pollitt is the mother-in-law)

💍 Read a book where a character either wears a hood or a kimono - A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams - 24/03/21 (Stella wears a kimono in one of the scenes)

💍 Read a book where a character goes dancing - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - 09/04/21

💍 Read a book where a character is single - The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante - 25/04/21 (Carrano is single)

(Tell us whom) - Glass Mask (vol.14) by Suzue Miuchi - 27/04/21 (Maya)
💍 Read a book where a character goes to a party.

-💍 Read a book with the word honey in the text.

-💍 Read a book where a character takes a shower.

Chloe Gong-these violent delights

6. GUATEMALA

-💍 Read a book where a character eats cake.

-💍 Read a book where a character goes to a party.
