Addicted to YA discussion

I couldn't help but notice that Inej didn't have her own thread... so I made one. I love Inej. She is probably my favorite all time character thus far.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on Inej?

I love Inej more than life itself. First of all, she's brown. I'm brown. She's like the first character I've read about where the main character is brown without the story taking place in an Indian setting and/or the story being about her culture. Which is dope. Also, she's so badass. Knife-wielding kick-ass queen is my personal favorite adjectives to describe her.

i absolutely adore inej. i’m reading crooked kingdom right now and i’m not even exaggerating when i say i think about her all day every day😭. amita suman is an absolutely perfect casting choice in my opinion, i’m so excited to see her as inej!!

Inej is amazing in Crooked Kingdom! I cried, like, way to many times when I read it but I love it so much. Also, ahhhh, I can't wait to see Amita portray Inej onscreen. I am literally going to die when it comes out!!!

Honestly, yes, just seeing a brown girl in a fantasy world makes me so happy because lots of the time, they're white.

And INEJ IS SUCH A QUEEN!!! She is my inspiration.

i just saw that inej was the topic of this discussion and i knew i had to come. i love my queen. imagine creating such an amazing character that no one hates on it...talent

Inej is such an amazing character!

Perfect morally grey character!! and for the upcoming S&B Netflix series — Amita Suman starring as Inej is so promising!!

I liked Inej, she was my favorite of all the other characters in Six of crows.

I think the best part was how refreshing her character was. Most of the characters with Inej’s character arc are portrayed as ‘cold’, emotionally detached and kind of that slight not-like-other-girls energy.
But the author didn’t do that
I’m fact, Inej isn’t cheerful or friendly but she is still able to get along and connect with other members despite her quiet personality.

She has gone through a lot , therefore she isn’t exactly naive and righteous. But she still has belief and hope she holds on to. Even if she isn’t exactly ‘compassionate’, she still holds value to other people therefore tries to understand them.

I’m really liked inej’s character arc and her scenes were enjoyable to read.

Very well said! I totally agree that she could have easily fallen into the not like other girls trope but didn't which is refreshing to see in YA literature!

i love inej! she's a strong female character, coloured skin tone, AND has gone through sexual traumas and still has faith in the world. I love her friendship with Jesper, and how she just brings the group together. I love how she cares for kaz as well!!

Arguably the best character in the whole Grishaverse. I know people like other characters too like Nina, Nicholai and Zoya but I think Inej is the most realistically written character I have ever seen.

What I love about Inej is that she is not like most heroines- people either write them as charmastic or as stotic and Inej is neither. She is most human and balanced. Mostly people root for these charming or stotic ones.

I wish to read more characters like her.
