Marissa Meyer is a pretty established author in the YA bookish world and I'm sure many of us have read or heard of some of her books like The Lunar Chronicles, Renegades trilogy and Heartless.

Here's a little thread to talk about those books!!

Have you all read any of them? I've finished The Lunar Chronicles (and became obsessed) as well as Renegades!

I've read both The Lunar Chronicles and the Renegades series. I will say, her books aren't the most deep, and in fact are often quite predictable and see-through, I tend to be driven by action and tension followed by plot though so I was actually in board with Renegades, despite having weak characters and a repetitive storyline. After reading one of her books, it's like you can read that Woman's mind. I very severely disliked her Alice In Wonderland retelling (didn't bother memorizing the title cuz I'm tired and it doesn't matter too much) as it A) was very inaccurate when it came to baking which is a HUGE deal for me. And B) But all my trigger points. Overall, if you want something simple that's easy too dissect and doesn't engage you too much, her books are good. But she's certainly not the best when it comes to books that aren't shallow.
But, hey, that's just where I stand on things.
Also, she has a bad habit of using terms like; "Her stomach twisted inside of her at the sight of..." as a crutch in her writing. If you don't know what a crutch is in writing, it's a word or way of saying something which you relay on too much, malign it feel repetitive and sometimes to the point of cliche. For example, I use the term "Okay" far too much in talking and even writing, and On top of that, your body doesn't do that, I know. My Grandma's a nurse. I hear about these sorts of things! XD

Okay. I need to go away. I'm too tired to be talking with people... And tired me is a bit insane...

May (theladymidnight) I've read the Lunar Chronicles and Heartless and enjoyed both!

Still need to read the Renegades series.

Alex (The Scribe Owl) | 90 comments I loved TLC and Heartless! I read the first two books of Renegades and I was not as big of a fan.

Pilar (thebookwormshelf) | 9 comments I loved the Lunar Chronicles! Most of the retellings I've read aren't mind-blowingly amazing, just good enough, which is why I love this series so much. I think it's so original but also stays true to the original stories. However, I started reading Heartless when it first came out and DNF'd it... I want to give it a second chance but I'm not sure if it's worth it. What do you guys think?

Phoenix (Books with Wings) | 90 comments I REALLY DISLIKE HEARTLESS.
I enjoyed TLC and I enjoyed Renegades series even more but Heartless oh my gosh I just really didn't like it. I'm not sure why, it just...wasn't my type of book.

love_yourshelf (love_your_shelf) | 36 comments I tried to read Renegades but got 108 pages in before I decided to DNF it. Wasn't bad but I was bored. I have Heartless and the Cinder sitting on my shelves so I don't know how that is going to go.

diya~ | 5 comments I loved both TLC (had a crush on both Kai and Thorne) and Heartless (This one broke me emotionally.) I haven't read Renegades yet... looking forward to it.

Millay (millayi) | 2 comments So far, I’ve only read Cinder but I did greatly enjoy it. However, I saw the plot twist coming from the first ten chapters…that was a little annoyingly predictable. But I can’t wait to read the rest! Hopefully that aren't repetitive .
