This is a romance and coming of age story about a young lady who wants to wear bicycle bloomers and help secure the vote for women. On her 17th birthday, Halloween, as it happens, she attends a show featuring a mesmerist. He hypnotizes her on stage in front of the audience. Her father decides hypnotism might be useful in reining in his daughter's unfortunate opinions about suffrage and a woman's proper place in the home. Henri Reverie agrees to the scheme and proceeds, with alarming consequences. The book was intriguing, funny, and corny. It occasionally put me in mind of The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot. The cover and synopsis were what convinced me to read it. The story was good, but I found some aspects to be annoying (in all fairness, this was written for teens and I am sure teen girls in particular will rave about it). If I never hear "all is well" again, it will be too soon.
