I've actually been holding off on reading this, hoping that someone would be interested in a buddy read sometime this year. Lucky me that people are already interested!

Emma I would have done that had I known- I’m halfway through now and I can’t put it on hold- it’s too good!

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments Awesome

Tammie | 5966 comments I think I might join in on this one.

Glad to oblige 😉.

I actually had this book "chosen for me" to read during the months of Feb and March. There was a booktuber organising this thing called The Booktube Spin where people were give a couple of weeks to create a list of 20 books assigned to numbers and on the 31st Jan the organiser span a wheel with the numbers on it and whichever number came up had to read the book attached to that number. Number 15 was what the wheel landed on which for me corresponded to Dragon Mage. It was a lot of fun. And Dragon Mage was definitely one of the ones I was most excited for. I think during April we'll be making a new list for another spin for a book for the months of May and June.

Ah thats a shame. I thought people would be too busy to read it with me but just asked on the off chance and luckily there was some takers. Its always worth asking on the buddy read invite thread coz you never know. Its good that you are enjoying it so much though!

Claudia | 108 comments +1 (hopefully)! Oh god, mid February is packed! I hope to join in on this one, I also wanted to join Circe and Poppy war 😓

That's a really fun idea!

Claudia | 108 comments I’ll start with the book a bit earlier now, cause I’ll probably take way longer to finish! Will have like 2-3 other books to read in parallel (right now Tigana and Black Sun, Circe starts on Monday and Poppy War end of the month) so bear with me 🙈

Hailee | 2764 comments Don't worry Claudia, its rare for any person in this group to be able to stick to reading one or even two at a time. (I fact if anyone in this group manages it I want to know their secret 😉). I have at least Malice, Red, White & Royal Blue and Waking Gods that I'll be reading at the same time and that's not even mentioning the books I'm currently reading or the books I'll be reading in March. You're in good company 😅

Claudia | 108 comments Haha it’s so hard to pick the ones I can join!

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments I'm in for this and heard only good things about it. When are you all starting?

Eva | 79 comments I'll join this one (read the first chapter and didn't want to stop!) but will be slow/tardy due to having heaped too many book commitments on my shoulders at once. Thankfully, they're all ebooks, or I'd be drowning in a big heap. 😅

I started awhile ago, just taking it out of "pause" on Sunday (didn't read any last night).

I'm only at 20% even then. Life hasn't given me a lot of opportunity to relax and read.

I have so many books I'm supposed to be buddy reading right now that there is no quiet time for me to say I'm ready to start this so I may as well just say I'll start when everyone else does 😅

Claudia | 108 comments I’m on 20% too! Just finished chapter 19.

I quite like it — easy read, magic system and this whole business with the knots keeps the plot very interesting to me so far!

Tammie | 5966 comments I'm 50% in and I love it. I haven't been able to put it down. I too am enjoying that it's an easy read, and I agree Claudia,, the magic is interesting.

Claudia | 108 comments Wow, Tammie you're so fast! Just reached 46% yesterday (finished Ch 46 – I like how one chapter in this book is basically 1% progress).

Hailee | 2764 comments I'm afraid I'm going to have to duck out of this. I'm sad but I just have so many other commitments and this is the only standalone. My other buddy reads are part of series or are readathon group books so I'll end up messing up schedules if I don't prioritise them.

I will be reading this book this year but it'll have to be in April/May or later when I have a bit more time.

Sorry to have to duck out but I know there are plenty of people in this buddy read so no-one is left on their own. I'm glad so many people are enjoying it I can't wait to read the spoilers when I get around to reading it.

I also will have to duck out of this read, though I still am very interested in getting to it eventually. Feb/Mar is a crazy time of year with the new school year starting.

I also bought a ps4 and have been doing considerably less reading this month.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments I'm not ducking out, but a week ago or so I hit a wall and have read nothing. I've listened to an audiobook a little while driving or doing laundry, but sitting down to read anything has just not happened.

Anyway, was right at 45% on this when that happened. I had a good pace going before I crashed, so hopefully will get back on that soon.

Tammie | 5966 comments Sorry it didn't work out for some of you to read it, but there is always later. I would love to hear what you all think of it when you finally get to read it. I thought it was excellent and worked well as a standalone, but I will read the second book when it's published.

Claudia | 108 comments I finished the book! I enjoyed it a lot, it was an easy read.

(view spoiler)

It would have been a 4.5/5 star one for me if it wasn't paddling so close to YA shores, I definitely had a great time regardless.

And yes, I agree that it worked really well as a standalone!

I would love to know that too! I hope that is included in the second book.
