Jason Oliver | 3258 comments This was just not a book for me.

This is the story of two families, victims of tragedy, sharing a house together. The book spans many years.

My biggest complaint is my lack of interest in what was happening. My mind kept wandering and I feel like I missed parts of the story. There is no real climax or conflict through the book. It felt more like short stories, jumping between characters and time. I really feel like I missed the essence of the book because I had trouble focusing. I was really bored throughout the book.

annapi | 5517 comments Yikes, I've had this on my TBR for some time. I tried to start it but got distracted. Now I'm wondering if I should scratch it.

KateNZ | 4222 comments I’m stuck part way through for the same reasons - it wasn’t holding my interest. But I was trying it on audio and the pace and style of the narration just wasn’t doing it for me. I might manage better in print - I do love Tim Winton’s writing!

Tien (tiensblurb) | 1642 comments Even for an Aussie like me, I struggled a lot with the writing style of this one.

Robin P | 6165 comments I felt the same way, it dragged on and it changed perspective too much. Then there was a weird thing where about the only black/indigenous character shows up from time to time as a kind of fortune teller or Greek chorus.
