"“Lucas was talking to me at the library yesterday and he said that Celia and Marcus were talking about it too. Everybody’s talking about it.”"I would maybe use a different word for talking, since you use it a lot? Maybe gossiping?
"It wasn't until later that she realized that it was an almost perfect replica of the girl sitting right next to her."I SHIP IT

I added the pink hair bit and thought the same thing-
Except for the girl next to her is completely normal.

“Lucas was talking to me at the library yesterday and he said that Celia and Marcus were gossiping about it too. Everybody’s arguing about it.”
“I know, poor Elpida. She doesn’t need people speculating about how her mom died.”
“Right? And really- murder? Everyone knows it was the pox.”
“Yeah. They need to stop making it harder for the poor girl.”
“And also- I’m fairly sure that the reason why she isn’t here is that… her mom died 13 years ago today. Didn’t she?”
“Guys. Guys. Listen to me. People need to quit it. Elpida doesn’t deserve this, and you know that this is going to bother her. Coming back to school, and all you hear is rumors about your dead mom, and the moaning of the lost souls of the art room,” Jessie said, eyes flicking between her friends and the people passing them in the hallway. “Now I have to get to maths. If I skip again my dad will kill me.” Quickly, everyone waved goodbye before dashing off to their respective classes.
She ran down a nondescript hallway, took a right, and finally got to her maths class, sitting down right as her teacher began explaining trigonometry.
“Gods above, this is boring. I can't wait until we start taking chemistry. Making things explode is my favorite subject,” she whispered to the desk beside hers.
"Jessie. Please. Shut up,” said the girl next to her- Evangeline? Light brown skin, dark hair. She had the strangest amber eyes. She had heard that she was in on scholarship- she'd been going for years, so if that rumor was true she should be impressed.
"Fine, fine. Chill," she whispered again, breathing out loudly and going back to doodling in her notebook. It quickly took the form of a little girl with cat eyes and light brown skin. She looked at it, something about it bothering her. Quickly, she shrugged it off and began shading in the hair with a pink colored pencil she had found in her bag.
It wasn't until later that she realized that it was an almost perfect replica of the girl sitting right next to her.
