February's read is... OUTLANDER By Diana Gabaldon. I've had this book on my TBR for probably years now so I was very happy to see it won the poll this month for historical fiction. I've heard many people adore this book so I hope I haven't set my expectations too high.
Have you read this book before?
If so, would you recommend it?
Happy reading!

So, what rating did you give this book?
- Were you team Jamie or team Frank?
- If you are team Frank, why? Is it purely because she made a vow and a promise that should of been honoured?
- If you are team Jamie, at what point did you realise you wanted her to be with Jamie?
- What surprised you most about this book?

- I gave this book 5 stars because i enjoyed it so very much BUT the amount of sex scenes is ridiculous, i can't say it's a faultless book, far from it but i could not put this book down, I've loved being in this new world. I made my partner binge watch the series with me as soon as i had finished the first book (We’re currently on season 4 episode 10) and i’ve carried on reading the series. Needless to say February has been extremely Outlander heavy for me!

- Absolutely team Jamie, in-fact i think even from the beginning i didn’t feel very kindly towards Frank. Gabaldon made it clear the two weren’t extremely close following the war and he seemed like quite a boring character, not to mention he looks like his ancestor Randall. She must of really really wanted us to hate Frank.

I think it was in Castle Leoch when he accompanies Claire to the castle after she tries to run away, even though it meant him going to the oath ceremony. I guess that’s the most obvious answer though.

- I was most surprised at how many stories were inside this mammoth of a book, it could of been split into quite a few. OK so i need to address the elephant in the room… the ending with Randall. It was extremely shocking and it broke my heart, what a fantastic manipulative writer haha. No truly i mean that in a good way, for a wrier to make me feel so strongly about characters I’ve never even heard of before is incredible.

I understand this book is not everyones taste and some people extremely dislike it, if you find yourself one of them, i’d love to hear why or any views you may have on this book/author. Seems this book divides a lot of readers, which side do you find yourself?

There is so much to ponder within this book, at first I thought that Frank belittled Claire and treated her like ‘the little woman’ she certainly didn’t have half as much fantastic sex with Frank as with Jamie!
I feel that Claire very quickly found her place in Jamie’s world, it was when she was picking the herbs in the garden that I realised she was making this home.
There certainly are parts which are a difficult read, the punishments given to Claire and others for example, but, this is what did happen and still does today.
It did surprise me that Claire looks back with fondness regarding Frank at brief moments, i found their relationship stiff and didn’t notice much tenderness between them.
It’s easy to just read the book, for entertainment but there are also many provocative social issues that are highlighted and could be discussed further. Did the author intentionally do this?
Overall 4 stars and would recommend to others.
