Similar to another Alice Hoffman book I read, the book is actually a chain of connected stories about different people who live in the fictional town of Blackwell, MA over the course of 100+ years. The stories envoked images of Johnny Appleseed, Emily Dickenson, and Sasquach. The stories are about survial, reinvention, love, and the return to nature. There are some lovely decriptions of the Berkshires. It was easy to read and I felt carried along by the stories as one folded into the next.
