Jen K | 3188 comments Another quirky family saga. Malcolm is in his 30's and has lived with his mother and mostly only socialized with his mother since she took him out of boarding school at age 10. Before that he had had little to no contact with his parents and never managed to learn social niceties. His mother Francis has lived a life of being beautiful, wealthy and sought after but is now coming to the harsh realities of running out of money and no longer young and beautiful. When the bank takes their upper east side home, they travel to Paris to stay in a friend's apartment and end up collecting an odd group of companions after their cat, small Frank/ Francis' husband/ Malcolm's dad reincarnated, runs away.

There are some frustrating irrational gaps in the story but a delightful collection of characters and well written turns of phrase and vignettes which I enjoyed.
