We're getting a new Persuasion Movie.
"According to BBC America, "Sarah Snook (Succession) will be taking on the role of Austen's 19th century heroine Anne Elliot. Anne finds herself in love with a man named Frederick Wentworth, but her parents do not approve of him as he holds neither social or financial status. With a heavy heart, she turns down his proposal of marriage." The book explores what follows when they encounter each other again seven years later.
British playwright Jessica Swale (Summerland) is writing the adaptation and Mahalia Belo (The Long Song) will direct. Sarah Snook has been cast as Anne Elliot and Joel Fry (Yesterday, Game of Thrones) will play Captain Wentworth."

And because one new Persuasion adaptation is not enough...
On February 8th "Modern Persuasion" Movie was released. It's a modern-day adaptation set in New York starring Alicia Witt.

"Wren Cosgrove, a highly-flying PR exec lives in New York with her cat. The boyfriend she never got over is her college ex Owen (Shane McRae, performing with the charisma of a wardrobe). After graduation, Wren refused to move to San Francisco with him. Now he’s a tech billionaire; though pointedly not a douchebag since his new project is a charity-giving app. When the pair accidentally meet up again – after he hires her firm to do his PR – Owen acts frostily like they’re strangers. Instead he flirts with Wren’s two young assistants (nicely played as irritating yet endearing by Daniella Pineda and Tedra Millan)."

That's exciting news! I want to reread Persuasion this year, as I've only read it once and I think I would appreciate it more now that I'm older. Anyway, I was thinking about how there aren't as many adaptations of this one, so it's good that there will be more!
I've found out accidentaly that Claudia Gray is writing a JA inspired fiction. I love her Lost Stars.
"My next non-SW novel should be my first for adults, a Jane Austen-Agatha Christie mashup called “The Murder of Mr. Wickham.” No official release date yet, but it should be along sometime in 2022… "

This is so funny! :D
We're getting another adaptation of Persuasion. I kid you not!
Dakota Johnson is set to star in Netflix’s retelling of Jane Austen’s novel “Persuasion.”

Described as a “modern, witty approach” to a beloved story, “Persuasion” tells the story of Anne Elliot, an unconforming woman living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy. Unmarried and 27-years-old, Anne reconnects with a man she was once persuaded to reject and faces a second chance at love.
Carrie Cracknell to direct. Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow have adapted the screenplay.

Hailey, I couldn't find anything definitive but I believe that the Sarah Snook's one is a period adaptation. The fact that BBC co-produces the project supports it.

We'll have another adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. This time it's gona be a LGBTQ+ one.
'SNL' star Bowen Yang boards LGBTQ Jane Austen riff 'Fire Island'
...
Now, Austen’s getting another go-round, this time as a LGBTQ-focused odyssey to the heart of Fire Island from some of the most lively voices in Asian-American comedy.
Announced by Variety, Fire Island will take a modern twist on Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, setting the affairs on the titular Long Island vacation escape that’s legendary in the gay community. Directed by Spa Night filmmaker Andrew Ahn, it will star rising SNL cast member Bowen Yang and stand-up comic Joel Kim Booster.
The film will stream on Hulu, and filming will begin in August on location at the hedonistic oasis, which Variety notes will celebrate the 45th anniversary of its famous drag-queen “Invasion” this weekend.
No release date has been set for Fire Island.

[Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster]
Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster are set to star in “Fire Island,” a romantic comedy from “Spa Night” director Andrew Ahn.
Described as a modern day take on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” the film will center on two best friends embarking on a weeklong vacation to Fire Island — the historic gay escape off the southern shore of Long Island — with the help of cheap rosé and a cadre of eclectic friends.
The project is set up at Searchlight, and will release exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. Globally, the film will stream on Disney Plus under the Star brand.
JAX Media (“Russian Doll”) is producing the project. Ahn will direct from an original feature script by Booster. Shooting will commence this August on Fire Island and in New York City. John Hodges, Brooke Posch and Tony Hernandez will serve as producers for JAX, with Chan Phung and Richard Ruiz overseeing for Searchlight.

Well, and because we can't have only one contemporary adaptation of P&P in the works /what's up with all the new JA projects?!/, there's The Netherfield Girls, Aanew adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice coming to Netflix
Netflix’s Pride & Prejudice Reimagination, ‘The Netherfield Girls’: What We Know So Far

[Maitreyi Ramakrishnan]
- starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan most known recently for her starring role in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever. Here’s what we know so far.
Becca Gleason, known for her work on such productions as Summer ’03 and The Commute will direct The Netherfield Girls from an original script she wrote.
What separates Netflix’s The Netherfield Girls from other adaptations is that The Netherfield Girls will be a romantic comedy and will be a fresh and contemporary take on Pride and Prejudice, while most other adaptations remained in the original’s period (albeit sometimes adding even zombies).
The film is a contemporary take on Jane Austen’s 1813 classic romantic novel Pride and Prejudice and will follow the lives of the Bennet sisters as they navigate their way through love and heartbreak and societal expectations. Ramakrishnan will play Lizzie Bennet, the sharp and headstrong sister who is skeptical of finding love among the rich in Netherfield Park.
No production dates are known for The Netherfield Girls, but according to issue 1224 of Production Weekly, filming is to take place in Southwest Ohio. Netflix hasn’t announced any dates for The Netherfield Girls, but it would be fair to assume a release date sometime in the second half of 2022.

First photos for the Dakota Johnson's Persuasion

Henry Golding has been cast alongside Dakota Johnson in Netflix’s adaptation of the Jane Austen novel “Persuasion.” Golding surprisingly has not been cast as the love interest. Instead, he will play Mr. Elliot, the cousin of Johnson’s character. ... Cosmo Jarvis stars as Wentworth.

These costumes and hairdos are giving me a headache. I can't decipher what time period is this movie supposed to be set in.

Sanditon renewed for seasons 2 & 3
"Following the #SaveSanditon campaign, BritBox picked up the series - based on an unfinished manuscript by Jane Austen - and filming for the second and third installments commenced this summer."
"Season one of the show was filmed mainly in Somerset, and while the county - and parts of the Cotswolds - feature in the new season, filming took place largely in the Bristol region."

Richard E. Grant on the Persuasion project
"Collider: Do you know what you’re going to be doing next?
GRANT: I’ve just finished doing the new Jane Austen Persuasion that’s been made for Netflix, with Dakota Johnson and Cosmo Jarvis. That comes out next Easter.
Collider: What was that like to do?
GRANT: Well, I play a guy called Sir Walter Elliot, who is the vainest man in all of English literature. His narcissism knows no bounds, which is innately hilarious to me. I had a ball doing it. And Dakota was such good fun to be around. I loved her."

Pride and Prejudice: Glaswegian adaptation becomes a West End hit

In 2018, the newly graduated actress Isobel McArthur was asked to write her first play by a theatre company in her hometown. Glasgow's Tron Theatre wanted her to adapt a classic and Isobel chose Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, a book she had never read.
Fast forward three years and Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) became such a word-of-mouth hit that producers scrambled to put Isobel and her cast mates on a stage in the heart of London’s West End.

Sanditon returns to PBS March 20
So season 2 is coming this year and there will be season 3 in 2023.

"The return of period drama Sanditon to PBS March 20 is an unusual triumph for Masterpiece and the fans of Jane Austen’s final and unfinished novel. That’s because the series was canceled before a single episode reached American shores.
“We knew that Season 1 had been canceled before it even aired on Masterpiece, but I knew it was going to be a huge hit for us, and it was,” said Susanne Simpson, series EP. “So our conversations about how to bring the series back actually started even a little bit before the series was a great success for us.”
“We were very lucky that [producers] Red Planet worked extremely hard with us to find partners in ITV and BritBox UK and also with BBC Studios, which is the distributor worldwide,” she said. “But it took at least a year to put that financing package together. We were committed to try to find a solution.”
During that time, some of the actors moved on to other projects, though most returned to play characters they loved.
The new financial package provided for the filming of two seasons of the show, guaranteeing that fans will have yet another season to watch in 2023."
According to the producer they acknowledged complaints about season 1 containing unnecessary sex scenes and said there will be less sex in coming seasons.

You can watch Sanditon, Season 2: Official Preview on YT: https://youtu.be/4Sv_ALiy9wU
The second season takes place nine months after the end of the first, and as the trailer shows, much has changed. Series protagonist Charlotte Heywood, played by Rose Williams, is shown in the trailer returning to Sanditon, where much drama and heartbreak took place for her only months before. The trailer features glimpses into her and her neighbors' upcoming adventures and drama. What is in store for Charlotte in the second season? Chastened by her heartbreak in the first season, Charlotte has taken on a more jaded perspective on life. "Love," she says in the new trailer, "is not as simple as you seem to think." And this, certainly, will be true for her as she is met with not one but two suitors upon her return to Sanditon.
The trailer also teases at plot developments for other characters as well, such as Georgiana Lambe, played by Crystal Clarke, who is in her last summer before her 21st birthday. Georgiana will try, in this summer, to forge her own identity in a world that is eager to suppress a woman's individuality. She will also plunge herself into the chaotic waters of love, but her attempts might cause more harm than good.
Charlotte is joined this season by her younger sister Alison, played by series newcomer Rosie Graham, who is after her own happiness. Along with these romantic adventures, the second season will also follow the Parker family as they attempt to rebuild Sanditon after the events of the first season. Along with fan favorites from the first season, some new characters will be joining the series, these include Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Alexander Colbourne and Tom Weston-Jones as Colonel Francis Lennox. Other new cast additions include Maxim Ays, Frank Blake, and Alexander Vlahos.

I'm glad they acknowledged the complaints, but "less" isn't good enough for me and doesn't fix season one. Bleh.
Let's see what Andrew Davies does with season 2. I kinda like that we're going to have a heroine that gets past her first love and goes on to become her own woman. Anyway, I still need to watch Sanditon season 1. But from what I'm reading season 2 has potential.
And I know that we have Marianne but Willoughby was a scumbag and their "love" was never real because it was built on lies.

Gay Pride & Prejudice premieres May 25 exclusively for free on Spotify.
Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice is about to get a queer twist thanks to Zackary Grady, who created, directed and wrote the all-new fictional podcast, Gay Pride & Prejudice. Ahead of the Spotify original’s premiere, ET has the exclusive first trailer, which is narrated by executive producer Jesse Tyler Ferguson and features a vocal cameo by Rosie O’Donnell.
According to Spotify, the series ”is a fresh, modern interpretation of the beloved Jane Austen classic. In the series, Bennet, a 30-something non-committal gay man, struggles to find belonging when his chosen family suddenly begins coupling up and settling down.”
“Gay Pride & Prejudice is a joyful and hilarious story about love and chosen family. Justin [Mikita] and I have been such a fan of Zackary's writing and are so proud to see this story come to life in audio,” Ferguson, who was recently nominated for his first Tony Award, tells ET, referring to his husband, who is also an executive producer on the podcast.
Grady, who originally developed this project for the stage before adapting it for audio, says, “I’ve essentially had two creative paths running parallel to one another for the past decade; writing scripts and directing immersive-audio theater. To finally have those two disciplines come together on Gay Pride & Prejudice and work with Jesse, Justin, the Spotify/Gimlet team, and this insane cast is an absolute dream come true.”
“The goal of our show was to maintain the heart of the classic story while finding a way to make it as dynamic and nuanced as possible for the audio format,” he continues. “Oh, and don’t worry, if you haven’t read the book since high school you’ll still love it, but I do think Austen fans are gonna lose their minds over how faithful we are to the original.”
In addition to Ferguson and O’Donnell, the voice cast includes Blake Lee, Marisol Sacramento, Matthew Risch, Maulik Pancholy, Ronald Peet, Rhys Nicholson, Sherry Cola, Vella Lovell and Javier Muñoz. The series will also be presented at the 2022 Tribeca Festival, with a panel featuring the cast and creators on June 13.

Trailer for Netflix Persuasion: https://youtu.be/Fz7HmgPJQak
IMO doesn't look promissing. Judging by (only!) the trailer, they changed Anne's personality to be a wise-cracking quirky girl. If that is so, I'm probably gonna hate it. Also, what's with the language. "NOW WE'RE WORSE THAN EXES. WE ARE FRIENDS." Where the heck this came from. It's terrible, absolutely atrocious.
FYI, this is what Jane Austen wrote:
"There could have been no two hearts so open, no tastes so similar, no feelings so in unison, no countenances so beloved. Now they were as strangers; nay, worse than strangers, for they could never become acquainted. It was a perpetual estrangement."
How on Earth could a scriptwriter read the passage above and "translate" it into: "We're worse than exes, we are friends."?! It's baffling.

New Pride and Prejudice adaptation (but it's from Hallmark!)

EastEnders star Toby Alexander Smith is far from a serial killer as he stars in a major US film.
"Toby shared photos from his new movie, An American in Austen, which premieres February 17th on the Hallmark Channel. The film is a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, with Toby playing the role of Mr. Bingley.
Sharing his news, Toby wrote: “Mr Bingley. An American in Austen premieres February 17th @hallmarkchannel #prideandprejudice #janeauste.”"

And there's more from Hallmark.
Love & Jane
Beginning on February 3, and running through February 24, the network will honor Jane Austen by paying tribute to the author’s enduring legacy with four new original movies inspired by her work. On Saturday, February 10, at 8 pm, viewers will get to see Alison Sweeney team up once again with Benjamin Ayres, her co-star in The Chronicle Mysteries series, as Lily and Trevor in Love & Jane. Lilly, a hopeless romantic and literary enthusiast, makes a wish to talk to her favorite author and is surprised when it comes true —and Jane Austen herself appears in her life to give her some much-needed guidance.
A Sneak Peak: https://youtu.be/Ved9fpknZ-E?si=6KCcM...
Frankly, going by the sneak peak it's gonna be terrrible. :D

BBC Revisits ‘Pride and Prejudice’ With Mary Spinoff Titled ‘The Other Bennet Sister’
'Doctor Who' producer Bad Wolf are set to make a new period drama based on Mary Bennet
Jane Austen fans rejoice: the BBC is returning to the “Pride and Prejudice” universe with a new spinoff drama about Lizzy Bennet’s sister.
Titled “The Other Bennet Sister” and based on Janice Hadlow’s novel of the same name, the series will focus on Mary Bennet, Lizzy’s unassuming and oft-overlooked middle sibling.
“Doctor Who” producer Bad Wolf are set to make the 10-part show, which is written by Sarah Quintrell (“The Power”).
“Unlike her sisters, Mary isn’t your typical period drama heroine,” reads the synopsis. “She is awkward, anxious, preachy, full of facts, a terrible singer… overlooked by her mother and seemingly destined to an empty dance card for the rest of her life… until Mary takes matters into her own hands.”

Bad Wolf produces the 10-episode show, with Sarah Quintrell set to write all episodes. Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder and Jane Tranter serve as executive producers for Bad Wolf, while Rebecca Ferguson executive produces for the BBC. Quintrell also executive produces, along with Janice Hadlow. Dan McCulloch, Bad Wolf’s director of content, developed and will oversee the spinoff. No release date or casting information for the show has been announced just yet. Quintrell released the following statement regarding the spinoff's announcement, expressing her joy at bringing this new tale to life:
“I’m thrilled to be telling the story of Mary – the other Bennet sister – exploring what it is to come of age when you’re the odd one out. It’s a joy to be adapting Janice Hadlow’s brilliant take on such a beloved classic with the team at Bad Wolf, and to have found our home at the BBC. I grew up (an awkward, anxious teen, getting everything wrong…) watching the BBC’s wonderful Austen adaptations. It’s the stuff every writer dreams of and I can’t wait to bring this beautiful story to screen – not least, for all the Marys out there.”

Netflix Set to Adapt Contemporary Jane Austen Retelling 'Pride'
...
According to Deadline, they're also developing a feature adaptation of author Ibi Zoboi's bestselling 2018 YA novel Pride. The book is described as a contemporary "remix" of Auten's tale, shifting the setting to setting to Brooklyn and populating its story with a diverse mix of multicultural characters from different socio-economic backgrounds. The story deals with timely themes of gentrification, class, and cultural identity.
In this version of the tale, the Bennets are the Benitezs, a Haitian-Dominican family whose five daughters are deeply involved in the life of their community. The Darcys are the much more affluent family who move into their gentrifying Bushwick neighborhood, turning a previously run-down building into a virtual mansion in the process. The clash between them that follows is familiarly Austenian in terms of all the bickering and longing; however, it's laced with timely social themes that will feel very relatable to modern readers.
Pride has had a torturous development history. HBO and Warner Bros. originally optioned it as a TV series, but for whatever reason, that never came to pass. Netflix is now reportedly developing the title into a movie, along with Alloy Entertainment and President Barack Obama's Higher Ground Productions.
The Bear's Karen Joseph Adcock is writing the adaptation, which is part of Netflix's extensive deal with the Obamas' production company. Higher Ground has already produced numerous titles for the streamer, including the children's cartoon Waffles + Mochi, the Michelle Obama documentary Becoming, and the Irish mystery series Bodkin.
No specific casting or production details are yet known.
‘Pride’ Movie, Modern Take On Jane Austen, In Works At Netflix From Higher Ground & Alloy
Netflix is in early development on Pride, a movie based on the 2018 YA novel by Haitian American author Ibi Zoboi. The project, a modern — and timely — retelling of Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice, comes from President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground and the company behind the book, Alloy Entertainment. Karen Joseph Adcock (The Bear) is writing the adaptation.
Set in the gentrifying Bushwick area of Brooklyn, NY, Pride centers on Afro-Latina teen Zuri Benitez, who fights to preserve her neighborhood and manage family chaos. But when the wealthy Darcy family moves in next door, Zuri’s disdain for the arrogant Darius Darcy turns into an unexpected connection that forces her to reconsider everything she thought she knew about pride, prejudice and home.

BBC releases new pictures for Miss Austen, starring Keeley Hawes

The four-part drama will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2025, marking 250 years since Jane Austen’s birth
The BBC has released new pictures for Miss Austen, a star-studded production of Gill Hornby’s best-selling novel of the same name, produced by Bonnie Productions for MASTERPIECE, in association with the BBC. The four-part drama wrapped production earlier this year in the Home Counties and will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2025, marking 250 years since Jane Austen’s birth.
Miss Austen is adapted by BAFTA-winning writer Andrea Gibb (Elizabeth is Missing, Mayflies) and takes a literary mystery – Cassandra Austen notoriously burning her famous sister Jane’s letters – and reimagines it as a fascinating, witty and heart-breaking story of sisterly love, while creating in Cassandra a character as captivating as any Austen heroine.
The new pictures show Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, Line of Duty, It’s A Sin) as Cassandra Austen and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Vigil) as Isabella Fowle. Synnøve Karlsen (Last Night in Soho, Clique), Patsy Ferran (Living, Hot Milk), Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey, Shetland), Max Irons (Condor, The Wife), Alfred Enoch (How to Get Away with Murder, Foundation), Calam Lynch (Bridgerton, Sweetpea) and Liv Hill (The Serpent Queen, Elizabeth Is Missing) are also seen in their roles for the first time.
Jessica Hynes (Life After Life, Years and Years), Mirren Mack (The Witcher: Blood Origin, The Nest) and Kevin McNally (The Crown, Ten Percent) also star across the series.
