Staring today with Book 1 Game of the Wolf

I made it up to chapter 3. Intriguing so far. I am already in the Hexecutioners grip! lol

I just got the complete set on Kindle Unlimited! I will join you if I like it.

World building and scene setting grabbed me right away. I got too caught up and moved to chapter 4! I already know Massa's writing style so I knew it wouldn't be long before I became involved. 😁

OK chp 1 done, I'm in, I'm sold mustang, glock, aviators, rolex, sharp suit, and a magic book.

Cool Jason! We are planning on reading the whole 10 book series as well. But probably going to put up each one on here as we go along. :)

Thoughts so far which I will put in spoilers:

Chapters 1 - 8:
(view spoiler)[Loved the set up with Jaxon Weylock coming on the scene and how we learned a little background of what he use to do as a FBI profiler before switching over to monster hunting. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[The poor woman Sara and what she had to go through with her husband getting torn to shreds by the werewolf. No wonder she is on the run, but it is interesting how the werewolf can track her. Sense of smell must be off the charts as no matter where she runs to the wolf can track her down. Interesting.. (view spoiler)[Also it will be curious to see why the wolf man killed her husband and what it wants with her. That is a burning question. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[The wolf actually has a name and drives - lol - well you know when he comes out of his wolf state (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[It will be interesting to see what Weylock does to protect Sara against the wolf man - I am ready to see some action with Weylock and what kind of weapons he will use to fight the wolf man. (hide spoiler)]

It really is a good take on the bad guy, the author really get us into the fellas head.

William Massa is awesome at throwing the reader into the fray of the stories! I read two of his series last year and it was like "wow"! :)

I have made it up far but will post some more thoughts tomorrow.

(view spoiler)[ I liked the take on the werewolf for this, how the human side had a modicum of control as the pack leader, also a werewolf serial killer was genius. I had Jaxxon pictured as Keanu Reeves ala John Wick, but this morphed into Jason Statham now. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I loved the backstory too and I'd like to know if he killed that demon who possessed him in the end. Probably did since he's now demon free and hunting but still. How did it go down?

I like it that the killer welcomes the beast and they have that kind of understanding - one tracks and hunts and the other kills. It's a great approach that works. As opposed to the 'poor me I don't know what I'm doing when I turn!'

What I don't get is why wait for 30 days?
Does he turn and eat humans only at the full moon?
Because he does seem like a real crazy SOB on a daily basis.

And, just like you Marie, I was also wondering how he tracks the woman.

By smell alone it cannot be when she's changing towns. Maybe with old fashioned tracking methods like the phone?
He did dump the husband's phone so he knew it may be tracked.

But does he use that same method to track the woman? Or is it something else? (hide spoiler)]

I finished the book. I flew through it at the speed of light!

Thoughts for the last few chapters:

Chapters 9-17:

(view spoiler)[Silver as a serial killer was an interesting twist and then becoming a werewolf actually just gave him more of an excuse to kill. I am not sure about the cell phone tracking - I think he might just have a heightened sense of smell where he could smell her miles away.

That is possible as I am going to go way off track here so bear with me for that explanation - in LOTR the Uruk-hai were able to smell Aragorn and he was almost a day behind on his track to hunt them down - so with the sense of smell I am thinking that Silver would be able to track Sara no matter where she went.

Jaxon using himself as bait was perfect and learning more about him being part demon made the story intensify and him not needing weapons as the "demon" is the weapon I thought that was really a cool idea. :)

When Silver made it to the cabin and saw the Sara figure in the rocking chair I was trying to figure out how he could see that image, but then it dawned on me later - the demon part of Jaxon can manipulate how he wants his image projected so Silver was seeing the form of Sara but it was what the demon was wanting him to see. The demon would also know everything there was to know about Silver as well which that is how he knew his name and what he had done in the past.

The runes and magic symbols on the doors and windows was a cool addition - what a surprise Silver got when he tried to get out of the cabin!

I am also thinking the demon drew the wolf magic out of Silver making him mortal once again, but I thought the wolves transforming into Silver's past victims was a cool idea.

All in all I really enjoyed this first book and looking forward to the next one in this omnibus edition. (hide spoiler)]

I accidentally finished without making any more notes! I really enjoyed the story, fast pace, short chapters and the premise for the Hexecutioner. Looking forward to reading the next.

I'm sorry I'm a little slow this week. It's the last week of ISFAB preliminaries and I have a few books left to judge so I'm a bit way in over my head with that.
But I'll finish this today.

As for the next book, you decide. I'll just make an official announcement on the book club thread so people know we're reading book 2.

I continued on reading the second book in the series which is this one: Sacrifice of the Sorcerer .

I loved it! It was a short read of about 62 pages on the kindle, so I read it within one sitting. :) Will be moving on to the third book sometime this week. :)

Yeah, I'm enjoying the short novella format a lot. It's good to be able to sit down and read a story in a single sitting.

I'll be finishing book 1 today and starting on book 2.
Will post my thoughts here a bit later.

But I didn't finish it yet - will probably be finishing it up tonight. I have some book commitments coming up this week, so I went and dived ahead into the third one! Lol
