Hello, I joined from the Jane Austen discussion group. She is probably the classical author I read most these days. I read perhaps the most famous ones when I was younger, but have got lazy over the years. Maybe I should re-read some of the classics - or even read some of the ones I've never read at all!

Florence, how extraordinarily brave to be learning Mandarin! That must be a huge challenge. Will you be reading the Chinese classics when you are up to it?!!!!

Beth-In-UK, have you read 'David Copperfield' by Charles Dickens? Charles Dickens is a brilliant author and his work is very descriptive but I personally prefer Jane Austen, as she has more humour.

Hi - I've put a comment on David C on that thread! I'm not a big Dickens fan myself - his books are very long, and often so, so sad. What I know is mostly from seeing the film and TV adaptations.

I'm Henry and I enjoy classic horror novels. I also love old horror movies and comic books, and I have a large collection dedicated to horror literature. Please don't let that keep you from striking up a conversation, though! I'm always happy to have the opportunity to speak with someone else who is interested in the genre.

I love classics too, but am not really into horror classics. Maybe that is because I have not really read any. However, if a book is well- written makes up for the fact that it may not be your favourite genre, in my opinion. Anyway, welcome to the group, Henry!

Of course! While horror is my favorite genre among classic novels, they are just one part of a broad category of spectacular books. Classics are, after all, genre-defining novels, and thus, are an important part of literary history.
