Some of my favorite historical fiction books are North and South by John Jakes, The Memory of Us by Camille Di Maio and Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepetys. message 11: by Sara (new)

Sara | 12 comments Hi my name is Sara! I am originally from Wisconsin currently living in Colorado with my military family of 4. I have a 13 yr old son (new teenager in the house!) and 7 yr old daughter. Oh and our furry companion Ace, the husky! Some of my favorite historical fiction books are The Book Thief, Scarlett, The Orphan's Tale, The War that Saved My Life, Little House on the Prairie series, The Nightingale, Courting Morrow Little... I have always been very fond of good books, but life happens as we all know. I wish I could recall some of the books I read when I was in grade school or high school, but alas my memory is not so kind. I blame it on homeschooling and being a MOM! lol All kidding aside, I am back into reading more again due to having to cut back on knitting (tennis elbow) and in between other hobbies and reading my bible, I am having a ball reading and reading AND reading some more! Angie thanks so much for starting this club.

message 12: by Judy (new)

Judy (jvbookworm) Hi All, I'm Judy from southern Colorado. I joined in on Historathon last month and loved it. I've loved reading books about history all my life. I love the old school stuff like John Jakes, as well as newer stuff like Sara Donati, Sarah Jio, Susanna Kearsley, Leila Meacham, Kate Morton and Lauren Willig. I'm also a stitcher (cross stitch and crochet) and a pet lover. I'm looking forward to more great reading!

message 13: by Andrea (last edited Mar 07, 2021 04:50AM) (new)

Andrea (andrearyan81) | 6 comments Andrea here from Suffolk (UK). I love reading historical fiction, crime/thrillers and romance. Some of my favourite authors are Kristin Hannah, Lucinda Riley, Debbie Rix, Kate Furnivall, Val McDermid, JD Barker, Jenny Ashcroft, Kate Morton, Dinah Jefferies, Robert Bryndza ... goodness I could go on and on. I am looking forward to our future sharing of historical fiction goodness and thoughts on books. I am sure it will encourage me to read some of the books on my TBR list. I also love to sew, knit and general crafting. How I find time to work I will never know 😊

message 14: by Ana (new)

Ana Paula | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Ana Paula and I’m from Brazil. I live in Michigan. I’m a homeschool mom with two boys. I love historical fiction and the author that I always remember is Tracy Chevalier.

message 15: by Donna (last edited Mar 07, 2021 07:54AM) (new)

Donna | 1 comments Hello, Everyone. My name is Donna. I live in the American Southwest, but grew up in the Midwest. I am not a mom, but if I was a mom, I would definitely home school. I have a background in anthropology and history and have worked with museum archives and collections. To me everything begins with history.

Historical fiction books that I have placed on my Goodreads 'favorites' shelf are:
A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline
Exiles by Christina Baker Kline
These is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 by Nancy E. Turner
The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michelle Richardson
Finding Dorothy by Elizabeth Letts
Conjure Women by Afia Atakora
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys
The Summer of '69 by Elin Hilderbrand

Genre books I have loved that are based in historical events are;
The Cabinets of Barnaby Mayne by Elsa Hart
Murder in Old Bombay by Nev March
The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden
Sweep: The Story of a Girl and Her Monster by Jonathan Auxier

I look forward to seeing which titles this book club will choose. I limit buying books due to space and budget; I get most from the library and the first selection - Four Winds by Kristin Hannah - has hundreds of holds in all forms at our large city library; so will not be able to read it now. The same goes for many of her backlist titles as well, a testimony to the fact that she is a very popular/beloved author. So if I can find a book by her that is immediately available I might read an alternate title.

message 16: by Susan (new)

Susan Hi My name is Susan and I live in North Carolina
I am a grandmother to a handsome 1 yr old boy and hope to be the one to introduce him to reading some day.
I love reading especially Historical Fiction. One of my favorite authors is Kristin Hannah, love most of her books.
I am excited to join the book club.

message 17: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 8 comments Hi everyone. My name is Lisa, and I am a homeschooling mama to a 5 year old. I'm originally from Northern California, lived in Austin, TX for 15 years after college, and am now living in Mexico for the past 4 years. I have always been an avid reader, with my favorite genre being historical fiction. My favorite recent historical fiction readsare A Gentleman in Moscow, The Things We Cannot Say, Pull of the Stars, and so many more. Thank you Angie for starting this bookclub. I am excited to discuss great books with everyone.

Stephanie Hearrold | 2 comments Hi everyone. I’m Stephanie and I am a very proud momma of 2 now grown kids. My son graduated college two years ago and my daughter will be graduating college this May. My husband and I are now “empty nesters” and that has been a change for sure but we still spend a lot of our time with our kids. I live in Kansas City, Missouri and I am fairly new to the historical fiction genre, but so far I have loved everything I have read. I am a fan of Kristin Hannah and have read The Nightingale and reading The Great Alone now. I’m really excited you started this book club and hoping to read more great books. Thanks for doing this:). Love your channel...

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate is a wonderful novel. It is based on true events and takes place in Memphis, TN in 1939. I would highly recommend giving it a read. :)

Erin Berry Salazar | 1 comments Hello! My name is Erin and I have had lived in Texas for the last 13 years - all in areas around Houston - most recently in the piney woods, about an hit NE of Houston in a town in Polk County. I am originally from the Midwest.

I am a social worker by trade, having lost my job just prior to the pandemic. We became a homeschool family and I have recently dived back in to reading!

I have learned that historical fiction is why I am naturally drawn to want to read. I enjoy reading stories about people during real time periods, often transporting myself to that time and thinking how different the world was then.

Thank you for hosting this Angie! I enjoy your YouTube channel and all of your recommendations!

Jennifer (jensreadinglife) | 3 comments Hi, I’m Jen. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband and 7 year old son.

I love historical fiction though I’ve taken the last few years off from reading books set in WWII as I felt like I had read so many set in that time period. I’m now feeling like I want to dip my toes back into that era.

I am a sucker for anything with a dual timeline and have loved historical fiction books by Fiona Davis, Amor Towles, Alka Joshi and JoJo Moyes.

I have a Bookstagram account @jensreadinglife if anyone wants to connect there as well.

I’m so excited to be a part of this group!
