Josh Hetcher | 8 comments Ruin in Rising is the finale in Leigh Bardugo's first GrishaVerse series where the reader witness the conclusion of Alina and her allies in the war against the Darkling. In order to fully understand and appreciate this book, I believe you really need to look back at her previous two books that she has written. Throughout each of the books, her writing has changed for the better. The language she uses to paint the environment and world they live in makes the books really come to life and her characters continue to develop and grow in each book and come to full fruition in this third book. Some side characters, such as Mal and Nikolai, only grew slightly and I felt after all three books, I still did not see nearly as much growth as I would have liked in them specifically.
Her plot devices remain relatively constant throughout the series and did not change in this finale. The beginning sets up the big problem, the middle feels very long with pockets of very well done writing, and always ending in a fulfilling and climactic ending. My only gripe with this is the same I had with her other books, the middle gets boring but the ending is worth it.
I read all three of this series in a period of about four weeks and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in an easier read, young adult adventure. The world is intoxicating and I hope you become as inchanted with the world as I did.
