I have never participated in a discussion like this!! It’s been a while since I read this book, should I reread it?
I just read it seeing it on the BOTM and thought it was pretty good. Looking forward to discussing it!
I've heard good things, and I've borrowed it from my library, but haven't read it yet. I'll try to get started pretty quick.
Oh, I highly enjoyed this book! Will try to hop into this thread every now and then, but I'm not planning on rereading; March is already full enough with bookish plans as is.
Hi! I adored Sorcery of Thorns and have had An Enchantment of Ravens on my TBR for about a year, so this is a good chance to finally read it!
Hello! I started reading this when it first came out, but I put it down because I had just read another series with a character named Rook, and I couldn't get into it. But later, I enjoyed the author's Sorcery of Thorns. I've always intended to come back to this one, so I was happy to see it as book of the month!
I’ve read this book recently and completely adored the writing style! Cannot wait to discuss this book with everyone.

I'm glad you're still willing to give this book a shot though!

Just some questions to chat about: Do you guys like Isobel? What do you like most about her? What about Rook? I like Isobel because she's very real. She does something and I can see myself or an actual person reacting that way. I love how brave and fair-minded she is even though she's quite literally dragged through all these crazy scenarios. I just loved watching Rook melt and them come to understand each other (I think the author did an amazing job in that aspect). What do you guys think?
Hi I really like Sorcery of Thorns and have been meaning to read Enchantment of Ravens but some of my friends have been saying that this is boring at some point. any thoughts? should I read this or nope?

I didn't find any of it to be boring or slow. While I was more drawn to the subject matter of Thorns, I enjoyed and believed the relationship more in Ravens. If you liked the one, I would definitely try the other.

Just finished! I really enjoyed this one! I'm so glad I decided to pick it back up. I loved Isobel and Rook and really liked all the other characters too. May and March were so odd and funny and the various fair folk were really interesting. I really felt sucked into this world!
I too admired Isobel's bravery and authenticity. I also loved her resilience and perseverance. As for Rook, I found his caprice and vanity quite humorous and endearing. He said so many funny things that he didn't mean to be funny but that just came from a place of not understanding humans. I also appreciated his open-mindedness.
debychase wrote: "Hi I really like Sorcery of Thorns and have been meaning to read Enchantment of Ravens but some of my friends have been saying that this is boring at some point. any thoughts? should I read this or..."I agree with Laurie wholeheartedly. That book's focus is more on the slow burn of romance, but although there's less of it when compared to Sorcery of Thorns, the action the book has is simply amazing.
Daddy Phantom [Kody] wrote: "I'm actually going to start this one later on this week! But I'm excited to start reading it!"I'm happy you're starting it! Look forward to hearing your thoughts.
I too read Sorcery of Thorns first and gave this a shot. I feel about the same after reading both books, three star reads. Rogerson's writing style is good and her descriptions are vivid. In this book the world building and plot fell a little flat for me.
I am very glad to have picked this book up. I really admired Isobel and her bravery and compassion. Rook was also a very endearing character and his humor was really very funny. I liked how it came from a place of confusion about humans and he wasn't trying to be rude or mean.
I JUST FINISHED AND I'M CRYING. THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!!Isobel was so real and brave and accepting of Rook. Rook was extremely endearing and hilarious but so sweet. May and March are just the cutest. and the ending...WHOA. But it does make me extremely happy and quite sad...
Speaking of the ending, the author really had me guessing how everything would turn out, right up until the end!

The book is amazing! I'm so happy you love it! Why did it make you sad though? I'm curious I was overjoyed when I finished. Lol.
Laurie wrote: "Speaking of the ending, the author really had me guessing how everything would turn out, right up until the end!"Me too, it was refreshing to have absolutely no clue how things would end up. I have to say things turned out better than I could've imagined though! Amazing end to an amazing book.
I'm just wondering...does this make Isobel an immortal now? it's sad to think that if she is still mortal, she would pass on and Rook would be devastated

MASSIVE SPOILER! Please don't read unless you're done with the book:

And idk about you but I also feel like the writing style was a bit hard to understand at some points. Like I would have to reread several parts just to understand what was even going on

Sometimes the author goes on and on about things that aren't really relevant to the plot to do world building and I get bored lol.

Aster is really interesting! I really liked her character. I think you maybe like more action in books? This book has a great plot but it's not as much action and intrigue based as Sorcery of Thorns, ACOTAR, or some other fantasy books.
I personally really enjoyed reading about her growth and sticking to what she believed in. I enjoyed how she dealt with her struggles using the abilities she had and not wishing to obtain something more powerful like magic to solve her issues. It's since it's something I relate to (not the magic part though lol) and is more realistic which I really appreciated.

I'm really glad that you took the time to contribute to our discussion though! It's always nice to have different opinions and get different points of view.
Noonecansinkmyship wrote: "Oh. I really liked her world building actually. I felt completely immersed. I want enough description to give me that feeling, but I never want it to overtake the plot. Books like that bore me too.

While I really enjoyed the book, I agree with you about Aster. I thought she was really interesting too and would have been happy to see more of her. I was happy with how her story turned out though.
Averil wrote: "Okay, guys. I have the book. I wanna read it. The only thing stoping me is...is the book good?!"I love this book! (In case you couldn't tell from all my comments above lol) I checked the types of book you have on your shelves so I would understand what types of books you like best and I think you'll like this book! Just be aware that this book isn't about court intrigue and as long as you go in with an open mind I think you'll love it. It'll just be a bit different. :D
just finished this book! loved the writing style and definitely think I will love books from this author in the future. I would definitely recommend this book to others, as it was a really good time. I'm pretty partial to series and slow burn romance, so if it were in that format I'm sure this would've blown me away. overall 3/5 stars and im so glad I read
Really enjoyed this read! It's been a while since I've found a magical book that I've connected with, so this was right on the spot for what I wanted to read in my life. Really, really enjoyed it overall.I'm glad that this wasn't a series as I have too many others on my plate right now. I was, however, surprised that it wasn't a series, because I do think the story could go on if needed.
Overall, liked the characters quite a bit and didn't take me long to get through. Writing was delightful with really flowery paragraphs that never went above-and-beyond, which is a hard line to tread for me.

Really, really enjoyed it o..."I'm glad that Rogerson has been writing stand-alone fantasy books. Most fantasy seems to be published as series, and while I enjoy those too, I don't like waiting for the next book in a series to come out. Plus, I have so many other books to read, that I often don't feel like starting a series.
I really liked this book and just feel like it didn't get enough love in its reviews. So many people try to compare it to ACOTAR and it's not at all the same. The similarities stopped at the main character being a painter and it involving fey. Though I can totally see it being "slow" for someone that enjoys heavy action in their books, I still think there's plenty of people that can thoroughly enjoy this. For me, this book was all about the character development and relationship that was built between Rook and Isobel. I had a lot of fun reading it actually <3

I personally don't like super packed action books and like to see character development along with solid plot. I'm so happy you enjoyed the book!
This was my first time reading Margaret Rogerson and I absolutely fell in love with her writing! Not only are Isobel and Rook hilarious and adorable together, but the world-building was amazing. As I was reading, I kept waiting for it to get boring because I just knew the story was going to slow down when Isobel and Rook started traveling but Rogerson even made that segment enchanting! I'm a small time author and I've always struggled with traveling segments and setting descriptions so I was really impressed with Rogerson's ability to keep me engaged during that part of the story. I admit that the ending felt a little rushed to me. I would've liked to have the "final boss battle" dragged out a little bit longer since the king was built up so much, but I'd still read the story again. And again. And again!
