This topic is somewhat self-explanatory.

If you have an idea for a monthly challenge, feel free to post it here. If you get, lets say, two to three people to support your suggestion, we'll find a month for it to happen.

Dreamer I think we could also do team challenges, you know, be seperated into teams and try to earn as more points as possible.

That's an interesting idea. If we'd want to do that on a monthly basis now and again, we'd have to come up with a list of general reading prompts/stats the participants can earn points for their teams by (say, 1 point for any finished book, another one if it's over 500 pages, another per prompt it fits, etc.)... and we'd also have to see how many people would participate in the first place to make up teams.
I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I've set up the April Challenge just now as a team challenge. I hope that it's at least somewhat like you thought, Lady Night. ;-)

This thread is more for challenge-related suggestions etc. ;-)

Niharika✩ (ilikebooksandyou) | 223 comments Right, I know you guys do team challenges. So I don't think this should be too difficult to organize.

There will be number related prompts and teams will try to tick of all of them. The one who ticks it off first, wins,

At least every second month, at the moment.

I could add a Team Challenge like that for August, the next open slot.
What kind of prompts were you thinking of? Comparable ones to the Easter Egg list or something with more of a strict theme?

message 10: by Niharika✩ (new)

Niharika✩ (ilikebooksandyou) | 223 comments A significant number. for example, 8 (August is the 8th month).

So here are a few examples...

A book by an author who has written 8 or more books
A book you read when you were 8
A book whose title contains 8 or more characters

and so on...

Hello Bookland-Adventurers,

there are still four months open concerning challenges (September-December) for 2021.

If you have ideas for either team or solo challenges and want to see them realised in this group, don't forget to post them here!

The first challenge fully based on a member-suggestion will be taking place in August, thanks to Niharika. :-)

:)

I got another idea...

Fire away - you can even choose any of the four open months if it's something to have a connection there.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooh for December I'd love to see something winter related that isn't focused on just Christmas! For example:

A book with the word "snow" in the title
A book where the main character celebrates a winter holiday that isn't Christmas
A book with white on the cover
A book where "cold" is mentioned in the story
(etc)

I can suggest more prompts too if you like the idea

I like the idea a lot - I'm wondering if we can do something like a team snowball fight with this... Please feel free to add more reading prompts!

message 16: by Niharika✩ (new)

Niharika✩ (ilikebooksandyou) | 223 comments Well, basically this one is based on the book I'm writing right now. There will be four teams, fire, water, earth and air. Each team will have to read some amount of books to create a defence and some more to attack. for example, if team air reads 5 books, its defences are up. Now no team can attack it. If it reads 3 books, it gets to attack a team. The defences cannot be up. One attack equals one book minus from the opposing teams stock. This means that if the other team has read 3 books then it will be counted as two.

Very interesting idea - I'd need to take a closer look at the defences because these seem kind of "overpowered" if they can't be disabled again (unless maybe, if the teams are really small). Also: will an attack cost the attacker anything?
I've logged this as the October challenge for now in the calender.

Edit: This leaves two single player challenges open - September & November. If you have ideas, leave them here!
Otherwise I'll come up with something or other in time ;-)

You can always change the rules. I came up with the example last minute. I think that attacks costing a little would be good but it shouldn't cost much. It's like a battle in war. Defeating the enemy will cost you soldiers and weapons. For the defences, you could set the number of books on a sensible height so that the defences aren't up for a long time.

message 19: by Dreamer (new)

Dreamer Well, I had an idea, which I'm not pretty sure if it is a good one, but anyway. We could have a "board game" challenge. Let me axplain you what I mean. We can have a board game template, like this:

(it's not mine, I found it on google)

There can be some prompts, like in every challenge. Every prompt will gain a specific amount (e.g. 1 or 2) of steps (usually refered to as points, but here we have a board game). so, every time a person reads a book, they can move their piece, based on the steps they gained. The aim is to reach the finishing line!

(I don't know if all this makes sense, since I'm really bad at describing, but I hope you understood something. This is the overal idea, but if I come up to something more specific, I'll let you know)

@Lost soul: I like the idea, and we'll have something similar but different enough with the chess board challenge I have planned for July (I think). Then we'd have a kind of test run to see how many steps per book/prompt/whatever are reasonable so people can reach the finish line.
I'll put this on the list for November.

@Niharika: I'll figure something out concerning numbers ;-)

All monthly challenges are set for 2021 now. :-)

But I've been wondering whether people would be interested in quarterly or yearly (for next year) challenges as well.

You can vote and share your opinion here:

Hello everyone!

Remember how I asked you about other challenge forms ages ago (https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...)?

You decided you wanted to see quarterly and yearly challenges in this group as well. I have come up with a few ideas already for longer-running formats.

But any input will be appreciated, and I'll make a list and polls to decide what quarterly or yearly challenges we'll try out in 2022 in December.

So please post ideas for monthly, quarterly and yearly challenges here for next year!

A poll for yearly challenges for 2022 is up now:
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

Please feel free to post ideas for quartely and monthly challenges for next year here or send a message on the topic directly to me. These challenges can be group, team or single player challenges.

Hello everyone,

the start of 2022 was very, very busy for me which is why the challenge section was in something of a lull. As people weren't interested in a monthly challenge in January, and as participation in the quarterly challenge as well as the yearly challenges is rather slow currently, I'll leave it at the longer-running challenges for now.

If you guys want to see monthly challenges again, please let me know here and I'll set some up again!
