I will read A Knock at Midnight: A Story of Hope, Justice, and Freedom by Brittany K. Barnett. I heard the author on a podcast and went and bought the ebook right away. I often do that with non-fiction that I want to read.
I'm going to read The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander. It's one that I heard of a while ago and thought I should read but never got around to it until now!

This will be a tough choice as oftentimes these types of books are so enraging and heartbreaking that I have to do them in small doses. I just read (i.e., listened to) Just Mercy in February and Evicted in November and would recommend both. Like Olivia, I'm thinking I should read The New Jim Crow... as it's been on my TBR shelf for almost three years.

That is on my TBR list, Rebekah. Interested in how you like it. Rebekah wrote: "I'm reading Evicted by Matthew Desmond"
Yay Sherri! Glad the list is some help!Sheri wrote: "Kelly wrote: "This month's selection is a book about a social justice issue. I can't wait to hear about the book that you all choose!

It would definitely be a good time to read it. Sheri wrote: "This will be a tough choice as oftentimes these types of books are so enraging and heartbreaking that I have to do them in small doses. I just read (i.e., listened to) Just Mercy in February and Ev..."
I’m reading White Fragility: why it’s so hard for white people to talk about racism. I’ve read the new Jim Crow a d while I definitely think it a worthwhile read it was quite heavy and the jargon a little convoluted so it did take me a bit to get through. Just FYI for anyone reading it. Start now. :).
I'm about to begin The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration and it is LONG, wish me luck!
Good luck, Katherine! It's on my TBR list as well so I'll be eager to hear your thoughts when you're done.Katherine wrote: "I'm about to begin The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration and it is LONG, wish me luck!"

This is an excellent book about the Great Migration. Katherine wrote: "I'm about to begin The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration and it is LONG, wish me luck!"
Okay, I'm changing the book I'll be reading--I do still really want to read Warmth of Other Suns but it's too much for right now; instead I just checked out Do Better: Spiritual Activism for Fighting and Healing from White Supremacy. :)
