I know nothing about this Welsh author yet, other than he passed away a couple months ago. I mention him because his werewolf series looks like it may be of interest for us: https://www.goodreads.com/series/5124...

It's odd how low a rating they have. Of his ten most rated books the highest rating is a 3.60. And yet his overall average is 4.18. If only I had known his secret when I was in school! My G.P.A. would have got me into Harvard.
Oh, man, I had no idea he had died. What a shame. I read Blackout and really enjoyed it. He's one of the most creative and prolific authors I've ever read, and he was never afraid of the supernatural. Essential reading for monster lovers.
Wow, Jeff! I got to admit that book sure looks interesting on the basis of the blurb. But check out the two one-star reviews, the only ones, and the ratings. What goes on here?!
If there's a spectrum with pulpy on one side and literary on the other, Smith was way over on the pulpy side with most of his writing. There may not be a lot of thematic content to dig into and the characters might be flat more often than not, but from what I've read he was a wizard with wacky plots and clearly loved the craft.
