She turns to Horizon,
"So."
((real quick: what are mutts? Is it those dog things at the end of the first movie? I'm sorry I never read the books and i haven't seen the movies in a really long time.))

Horizon winces slightly, invisibly, at the simple word. Why is she so tense? It’s just Kalisse, for cryin’ out loud. Rize had always thought she had nerves of steel, but for some reason, this past week was really rattling her.
“So?”
“So?”

Kalisse sighs at the lack of response. She had been dearly hoping she'd have something to bounce off of. Whatever.
"So!" she practically exclaims.
Finally being able to express all the nervous energy that had built up within her, she throws her hands up at the word, as if desperate.
"So!" she repeats again, almost hinging on 'going crazy'.
She turns back to Horizon and suddenly the gaze she gives is pitiable. She looks distraught, first of all. Messed up. Overwhelmed. But within all that is her characteristic fire. But instead of it being one filled with light and energy, it's filled with uncertainty (((((it's almost flickering))))). And almost ... violence.
Anyone who knows Kalisse well knows that if she seems serious. If she seems concentrated. It means that it is the calm before the storm.
(A hurricane is brewing.)
"So." She repeats the word one final time, and her voice breaks.
She takes a deep breath and finally continues, "you can clearly tell we're not here for mutts. Can't you?"
A small, feeble smile flickers on her face and one of her fingers twitches ever-so-slightly.
"Of course you have," she continues, smiling, whispering. Getting closer to Horizon. "You've always been so ... smart, Horizon." The way she says 'smart' makes it sound like an insult. "Smarter then me, at least." Her smile wavers, as if an uncomfortable thought had crossed her mind.

[[Uh oh—]]
Horizon takes an involuntary step back. “K-Kalisse…” The emotions crossing over the older Gamemaker’s face nearly make Horizon panic all on their own. The look in her eyes sends chills prickling down Horizon’s back. She’s never seen her like this. So…conflicted, though conflicted hardly does it justice. Horizon bites her lip, hard enough to draw blood.
She can’t even think any more. Some Gamemaker she is — falling apart at the smallest problem. But it’s not small. And it’s not necessarily a problem, at least not yet. Horizon clenches her hands into tight fists to keep them from trembling. Or, that’s what she tells herself, but is there some other reason? No. There’s no reason Kalisse shouldn’t be trusted. At least, not yet…
“Kalisse, please.” Her voice wavers as she’s on the verge of pleading. “What’s going on?” But the next moment, Rize wishes she never asked. Does she really want to know? Not really. Not if it’ll change things. Unfortunately, words cannot be redacted and so her question hangs heavy.

And then-
something snaps within her, something dangerous flashes in her eyes, and she slams the table, screaming, "You've fucking figured everything out!"
“So what if I have?!” Horizon snarls back in a sudden change of face. Eyes opening, she notes their position. A corner. Just great. Inwardly she scolds herself for being so careless, so blind. Good going, Rize. Kalisse is too close now. Too angry. Too unpredictable. Days ago Horizon would’ve said that she trusted Kalisse wholly, that she knew Kalisse would never turn on her. Then again, was that the real Kalisse? Horizon grimaces, remembering. Was any of that real? Or was it all just a big facade to hide her real intentions. But now, with Kalisse so close and still closing distance, Rize reflexively raises her arms as if to defend herself. Not that it would do much good if minds were set.
“I just saved your freakin’ hide back there, so at least an explanation would be nice.”
“I just saved your freakin’ hide back there, so at least an explanation would be nice.”

"An explanation??" she says, in the same tone of voice as her scoff. "That's what you fucking want? Oh, I'll give you an explanation all right."
She grabs Horizon's outstretched wrist, and drags her to the lab's main table. She shoves Horizon into a seat and sits across from her.
"Fine," she says, her voice turned deadly serious, and her expression too. "I'll give you an explanation." Though she seems to be less overtly explosive, she could also be described as 'as taut as an elastic ready to snap'.
Horizon’s pulse skyrockets at the physical touch, and not just because of the circumstances. As she falls back into the chair, it tips, nearly sending her over backwards. For a split second, Horizon wonders if it’d be possible retreat, but discards the idea instantly. No way. Not with Kalisse. If the Gamemaker wanted to, she’d be dead before making it to the door — armed or not. So Horizon sits rigidly in the chair, her breathing shallow. It takes all her will to force a hardened look into her face, but she somehow manages to pull it off. A relief. A wall she can hide behind.

"Right. So now that the whole class is listening, I'll tell my story," she says sardonically. She taps her finger against the glass table, her gaze piercing into Horizon.
"Well, let's start with something spicy:
I'm not from the Capitol. I'm from the Districts." She widens her eyes mockingly, imitating the surprise that she predicts that Horizon will have. "Shocker, right? What a surprise. I've crafted my entire life, who would've thought."

((I couldn't agree more!))
Horizon just barely manages to mask the surprise on her face, but her body stiffens with the revelation. But… I thought you were always in the Capitol…? Mentally, she frowns. Guess that’s just another lie to add to the list. The ever-growing list.
The mask breaks ever so slightly and a bit of the contempt and distrust show through the cracks. What else are you hiding, Kalisse? But Rize forces herself to play it cool.
“Oh? And what District might that be?” She herself was from a District, the first, but it was no secret. It was not a lie.

Well. Finally revealing plans for the big finale, huh? Horizon grits her teeth at Kalisse’s expression. A part of Rize had suspected as much—the other’s tone and expression were hard to miss—but she had hoped it wouldn’t end in death.
“Oh, please do continue,” Horizon coerces, her voice mild and jesting. She keeps her cool gaze on Kalisse, but her mind races. If the older Gamemaker didn’t want Horizon to walk out of here alive, she was prepared to kill. If only Rize had grabbed a dagger on the way out of her room, but the sleepless night and hurricane of emotions had distracted her. Horizon doesn’t even know the last time she didn’t have a weapon tucked somewhere in her clothes or hair. And, of course, she slipped up just when it really mattered. Typical.

((If horizon dies could max walk in and see, or should kalisse get away with it?))

Kalisse smiles, looking a bit more relaxed. A bit happier. "Good," she says, sounding honest. "I wouldn't have been able to kill you, honestly." Her eyes widen as she realizes something. "Wait, oops, I shouldn’t have said that, huh? Now you know I'm bluffing. Oh well. I have other, less lethal but just as bad threats under my sleeve so things should be alright."
Shrugging to herself, she activates one of the holographic screens on the table.
"Alright. Let's start at the beginning," Kalisse says with a grin.
