What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

LIGHT SPOILERS FROM FIRST 100 PAGES OF 600+ PAGE BOOK.




Read the first half of the book, or rather tome as it was easily 600+ pages, in the early 2000s.

Book starts out following male protagonist as he is on what is our earth in what I recall was the 1930-40s, with lots of film noir type detective descriptions. To start he has amnesia, but slowly begins to recall his heritage and innate powers of inter-dimensional manipulation and travel as he's being pursued by villains and entities.

Early in the story ends up back on his home plain where a war is beginning between a dark dimensional void that is encroaching into his home dimension that leaks creates of darkness (it described as a blight of shadow and consumes everything it touches).

The home plain battles in fantasy type weaponry, however the royal line possess supernatural powers that allow them to manipulate their surrounding into whatever they choose.

For the life of me I CANNOT REMEMBER what this book looks like or is called. I'd love to finish it and have friends that are fans of the genre I've been dying to recommend it to.

I do not know if it was one massive book, or a compendium of a series of books in one large tome.
