Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments Love and Fury: A Novel of Mary Wollstonecraft
Love and Fury A Novel of Mary Wollstonecraft by Samantha Silva

I recently read Love and Fury and was so impressed with the writing that when I was still finishing reading this one, I ordered this author's previous book Mr. Dicken's Carol. So I'm looking forward to reading this one very soon.

I've only read Windy City Blues by this author but liked it - found it took a little while to get into it, but once I did I found it to be better than expected. I actually took the risk on it buying it when it was a good price (glad I did!).

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments Good to hear it Simon. The Social Graces was excellent from the first to the last pages :)

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments I think most of us have that problem :)

And, it's a good problem to have in my opinion :)

Simon | 214 comments I do want to read The Four Winds & The Rose Code as two for sure. I quite liked Kate Quinn's writing style in The Huntress :)

message 10: by Annette (new)

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments I loved the Four Winds. I'm not familiar with Kate Quinn's writing.

Simon | 214 comments Annette wrote: "I loved the Four Winds. I'm not familiar with Kate Quinn's writing."

She writes WWII historical fiction, but that being said she did contribute to the novel Ribbons of Scarlet: A Novel of the French Revolution's Women, which I haven't read yet (have on my ereader).

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments Yes, I remember her name in that book, which I've read and loved. But it's not enough to tell about one's writing style.

Yeah, one novel by her isn't enough, but it's a start. I should read that one I mentioned though.

This one's on my list, but have heard mixed reviews on it. Does sound interesting to me though still :)

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments Simon, the reality is that it happens pretty much with each book. What is slow pace for one, is an excellent read for another.

Very true Annette. I read the synopsis of the book I am interested in, and decide myself if I want to read it or not. Honestly, I do read other people's reviews but in the end decide for myself :)

message 19: by Annette (new)

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments Exactly, I only go by reviews when I'm hesitant about a book. Otherwise, it's my decision and no review will deter it :)

Yup :) I read other people's reviews just to get an idea of others' opinions, but in the end only you decides whether to read it or not.

Simon | 214 comments I heard of a book this morning coming out July 6, which like The Four Winds, is set during the Dust Bowl. Novel is a debut called If It Rains by Jennifer L. Wright.

message 27: by Annette (new)

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments I just saw that I have it on my TBR, but I don't want to read another story set during a time I just read about. I want to read something haven't read about yet :)

Lots of historical fiction novels out there that fit that category :)

Simon | 214 comments So many books on my list, but one that keeps coming back to me now and again is The Saint's Mistress by Kathryn Bashaar. Would make for a good book club pick perhaps :)

Karen, I requested The Hidden Child, but haven't received any response. Did you receive a copy of this one? I really liked her first book.

Simon, I just got it from the library :) But so far, there was only one of her books that I liked it in its entirety. Her writing is not consistent for me.

I haven't read that one by her, but sounds interesting. The one I did long ago read by this author was Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker.

message 44: by Simon (new)

Simon | 214 comments Annette,

Have you started “The Women’s March: A Novel of the 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession”?

message 45: by Annette (new)

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments Yes, it's a lot of telling. Not the style of writing I like. I just came to a conclusion that she is not a writer for me.

message 46: by Simon (new)

Simon | 214 comments Fair enough Annette - not every book is going to please everyone :)

message 47: by Simon (new)

Simon | 214 comments I definitely have The Diamond Eye on my radar in 2022 . . .

message 48: by Annette (new)

Annette (annetteshistoricalfiction) | 150 comments Nope, I can't deal with any war stories at this time. I've had enough of them.

It's on my list sometime - but yes, so many non WWII historical fiction books out there to tackle :) Just that Kate Quinn is a very good author . . .

message 50: by Simon (new)

Simon | 214 comments Have you heard of the historical fiction novel The Light of Luna Park? Came out in August, and is very much talked about lately . . . little known piece of history & Coney Island.
