SarahKat | 6431 comments TEAM: HOUSE RAVENCLAW
25K Celebration Readathon

This thread is for members of the House Ravenclaw team to use however you wish in relation to the readathon. Your teammates are:
Diane (Captain), Niharika (Assistant), Bobbi, Daisie, Dominique, KaraBeta, Maitha, and Sara.

Here is the link to your team’s spreadsheet, where you’ll be tracking your progress as you go.
If you have any questions about the readathon, how to interpret the prompts, how to use the spreadsheet, and so on, ask your Captain or Assistant first. If they don’t know, they can post the question(s) on the Readathon Central thread.

Happy reading! Let’s have a blast during this two-week readathon!

KaraBeta | 157 comments Good morning Team Ravenclaw!

I'm so excited to be part of this group!

I have prepared quite a pile of books for this readathon and I think I can cover most of the prompts, so I'll wait a bit and choose the books depending on where we are a bit weak.
I opted for 3 books, maybe I can add more.

However, I had difficulties finding titles for the following prompts:

Solos (1-book prompts)
Read a book read by a teammate for this readathon: depends on the books you read
Read a book which has been translated into 25+ languages. (How can I find out?)
Read a book published in 1996

Duets
Read 2 books starting with “L,” (12th letter) and "Y" (25th letter) of the alphabet: " L" is fine but the "y" is difficult since I mostly read in German.

Trios (3-book prompts)
Read 3 books: one you wish to read at 25 (if you’re under 25), one you read at that age, and one you'd recommend to your 25-year-old self.

I have solutions for two of the prompts.

Read a book which has been translated into 25+ languages. (How can I find out?)
You can Google it up and see which books you can prepare in time.

Read a book published in 1996

Maitha (imaithany) | 47 comments Hello! I'm so excited to start the challenge!
I was planning to read 2-3 books, but since I will be on Spring Break (for a week) I will see if I can read for some prompts that we need to fill.
Also, I have a question regarding the spreadsheet, for the planning page, do we write the name of the book and what prompts does it fit?

Read a book which has been translated into 25+ languages. (How can I find out?)

1. One Hundred Years of Solitude has been translated into 46 languages.
2. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland ( at least 97 languages)
3. The Shadow of the Wind was translated into 40 languages and it is part of a series of 4.

These are the ones I know are translated and I checked the number of languages. You can find more if you googled it.

message 8: by Maitha (new)

Maitha (imaithany) | 47 comments So I will write the books I'm planning to read here until I'm sure how the spreadsheet works
1. Quiet: Published in 2012
2. Lord of the Flies : Starts with L, it is also the 25th book on my TBR, I shelved it on February ( When I joined the group) and it has more than 25k rating on GR

Thanks!

I just wondered if there is an easy way and the one ultimate go-to website I could use as a reference.
Using a search engine doesn't work in every case and it's very time consuming.
(the most-translated-books-lists don't help, either already read or not interested or not available, same with the Best-of-1996-list)

But it's fine, meanwhile I found a title for the 25 languages prompt and I can live with not being able to cover all of the prompts. After all, it's teamwork, isn't it? :-)

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
The Ten Thousand Doors of January

Read 3 books by an author who has written 25 or more books
Harlan Coben

Win
Missing You
Play Dead

message 15: by Dominique (new)

Dominique | 1268 comments You guys let me know if the prompts I chose are okay or if someone want them I can change them.

message 16: by Maitha (new)

Maitha (imaithany) | 47 comments Hello Dominique!

I personally don't have books for these prompts, you can add them in the planning spreadsheet for now. Also, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue can fit the prompt "2 books with 25,000+ ratings each on Goodreads" in case someone wants to read a book with 25+ characters in the title.

message 17: by Maitha (new)

Maitha (imaithany) | 47 comments These are the instructions to fill the planning sheet:

On the Planning page:
(1) Post each book you are currently reading in a separate column as follows:
*Book title (your name) at top of the column
*Possible Fits: place a lowercase "x" in every prompt your book fits
*When you finish the book, highlight your book title/name cell as well as the prompt you selected (out of the possible fits). Any kind of highlighting is fine (like changing the cell color), but the whole team should use the same method.

message 20: by KaraBeta (new)

KaraBeta | 157 comments I'll start the readathon with
Die Apfelprinzessin

It's really a starter for the main course as it counts only 138 pages but it covers four prompts:

Read a book with the word ‘silver’ in the title or with a silver cover.
Read 2 books in a series, one with at least 12 books and one with at least 25 books.
Read 3 books by an author who has written 25 or more books.
Read 4 books that feature a bibliophile, bookworm, librarian, or bookshop.

I guess the Brothers Grimm count as bibliophiles.

KaraBeta | 157 comments Hello Dominique and Sara!
Happy to be with you on the team!

@Maitha
For which part of the prompt would you count your book?:
Read 3 books: one you wish to read at 25 (if you’re under 25), one you read at that age, and one you'd recommend to your 25-year-old self.

@Niharika
With you reading The One and Only Ivan I could tick off the first prompt, "read by a teammate" :-)

Hi KaraBeta!

When you say post some other books, do you mean books you are considering reading?

message 34: by KaraBeta (new)

KaraBeta | 157 comments Yes.
I have prepared books for nearly all of the prompts (except those stated in msg #4), most are good for multiple prompts and I'm really flexible.
I thought it would be a good idea to wait and see what is needed. But if you think planning is easier with a set booklist, I can choose right now.

The only limit is the number of books I can read in two weeks. I signed up with three, maybe one or two more if I'm on a roll and RL doesn't interfere :-)

message 35: by Maitha (new)

Maitha (imaithany) | 47 comments Same KaraBeta,

That sounds like a great plan. I don't think you need to start with a fixed plan. We can all fill in where there are missing prompts and use wild cards as well. Team work!
