Just went into autumn break and I can’t wait to start my holiday with this book ahhh so excited

So we're supposed to be starting today! I have a book I'd like to finish first, it's a fantasy book, so I'll finish that first (gotta give SJM full attention! :D) and start in a day or two. But whoever wants can start today, it is officially the day we planned :)

I haven't started yet, but I am planning on starting today. I'm excited to read it for the first time, but also nervous about whether I'll like it or not.

My copy arrived just now! I haven't yet finished gilded wolves, the other fantasy book that I was reading, and I was planning to finish it before starting this but I'm putting it on hold for now, and I'll read it after this cause I have a feeling this one is gonna shatter my soul, and so is rule of wolves which is next on my tbr, and it's obviously not a good idea to read sjm and Leigh back to back, so I'll finish TGW then. Cause tbh I'm not enjoying it very much, and definitely not enough to keep Sarah waiting 😌

Ok, so, I've read 3 chapters! Not a lot, so I don't have much to say, and it's definitely not spoiler stuff but I'll put it in the tag anyway - (view spoiler)[so this book seems really different than throne of glass! Not just cause it's adult (tho there IS a noticeably high amount of swearing 😶), but just in terms of I can feel that there's gonna be a TON of world building. Not that that wasn't there in ToG, but even me, the biggest officialself proclaimed ToG fan will admit - while the plot and character development in ToG was just *chef's kiss*, there was a lack of world development (all the more reason to wait for World of ToG, there's so much world building potential in that series, so excited to see what Sarah comes up with! Anyways, back to CC 😅) but judging by the amount of terms in the first 3 chapters itself, I can tell this book is gonna be amazing!
That's kinda something I wanted to say, don't really have much to say about the plot or characters since we're just starting, but I can feel that I'm gonna love this book 😌 (hide spoiler)]

Aliyah we are reading how much ever we can, at our own pace! Because 1. It's a HUGE book, 2. It's not really a series, just 1 and 3. If we make a reading goal I doubt any of us will follow it so yeah 😂 read at your own pace, how much ever you can, and then come here and update how much ever you've read, in the format in the first post! :)

I'm struggling to get into this book... Is it just me or is the beginning very slow... I'm only at chapter 4 and I'm still unsure what's going on

Yeah the start of this book is quite slow... there is tons of worldbuilding happening at the start and not much plot but then it really really kicks up later and oh boy the last 200 pages are wild! I really struggled the first time I read it especially with those first 4 chapters but it’s now my favourite book of all time.

Yes! I have now read 10 chapters and it finally seems to be speeding up a bit. I guess since it is a big book (huge, to be specific - more than 800 pages, and it's just the first in the series!) Sarah can take her time in setting the scene :)
But now, I think the scene is mostly set, we have a backstory, a plotline, an obvious love interest so... let the pain begin 😅

Yeah, it's really getting interesting, and things are getting much faster... we just met Hunt, and I feel like he's going to be pretty important going forward 😏😏

Guys I’m loving this aidneiejejejrj (don’t mind my keyboard smashing, it’s my way of saying this is amazing). I’m not going to say anything spoilerish cause I’m on my phone but ahh I’m so sad but also excited. I’m on chapter 9 btw. What’s everyone’s thoughts so far?

I am really enjoying the story now. It took md a while to get into it, but now I'm enjoying it. I'm starting to enjoy all the characters

Tisha, I felt the same way T-T...

You know I'm just realising, as Tisha said (view spoiler)[that sarah spent the first 50 ish pages just setting the scene, so we felt it was slow. But the thing is, she wasn't JUST setting the scene - I mean, I'm still confused about some of the terms, so it's not like that was the purpose of those first 50 ish pages. The purpose was, that sarah wanted to warn us that she can break out heart before the book is even 1/8th done. As Tisha said, she showed us a this beauty in their friendship, Connor asked her out and sent that cute message, but then she goes and BOOM, there goes all THAT.
When Danika died and it all made sense why she was doing all this random stuff in the beginning - to show to us just how precious Danika and Bryce's friendship was, before she could kill her off and break our hearts. Sarah, all the way, that's her. Classic Sarah. 50 pages in and she's already done something so evil, so we wonder how we'll survive this book when I'm already sad thinking about something that happened in the first 50 pages, when there's 800 pages more to go 🥺

Sarah just loves playing with our hearts, and that's exactly why she's such a great author <3

Also, I've reached the tenth chapter, and as Annie said, I'm enjoying it much more! The pacing is amazing, and it's getting interesting. Oh and another thing I was thinking of was Bryce's depression reminds me a lot of Aelin in HoF, I really really want to see how she's going to come out of it.. I love the mental rep in Sarah's books!

I'm also enjoying the interactions between the characters, especially the bickering XD

I am going to read this book soon!! First I am going to read the serie a court of thorns and roses. I am in the third book and is so funn!!

How's everyone doing so far? I think I am ahead of all of you, nearly on Ch 34, which is why I'm not posting my thoughts much, because I don't know where you all are and I don't want to give spoilers. So let me know where you are, and we can all discuss that part, cause I feel like after the 200 page mark is when you really start getting invested enough into it to have thoughts :)

I don't have my copy atm but I'm done with well above half of it and... don't kill me for this, but I'm just not feeling it. You know, that.... grip, that I usually feel when reading SJM books. Can't feel that anticipation, nor that slow burn, nor that much angst. Maybe cause it's so long, and it's just the first book? Idk, I'm obviously not gonna DNF it cause everyone says that the last 200 pages are the real jaw-dropping part, and anything for Sarah (and Hunt XD), so, yeah, hoping the pain really begins soon, I'm genuinely ready to bawl my eyes out, I really want that, tbh, so that it starts feeling more like an SJM book and not just any other fantasy-romance book, you know?

Mm-hmm, I think I've finished just above half of the book, and I definitely love the banter between Bryce and Hunt! But, I just don't feel addicted to it like I did with ToG...
That might just be because the middle is slower, and it's slowly building up to something, so yeah..
The investigation is getting a lot more interesting though, so it'll hopefully get faster soon!

I actually agree with you guys. I wouldn't say the middle is a drag, but it's definitely slower. And I have to agree with Aahana, I feel there's something missing(?) if that's the right term... Like it's good and I'm enjoying the read, but I'm just reading it at a slow pace and not necessarily feeling the need to continuously read it, if it makes sense?

Yes same, Annie! Like, it's just not got me addicted to it, the way ToG had. Not a comparison, they're completely different, and I'm sure this will be amazing towards the end as everyone is saying, but it is pretty slow atm. Who is your favourite so far? Mine is definitely hunt. Like Bryce is cool but she's, like, Celeana level, not Aelin yet. Hunt tho... no comparison with Rowan, but he's just, def my favorite :D 💗

I'm not the biggest fan of this world to be honest... I like SJM writing, a lot, but this (the society) feels soooo modern... I enjoyed the "midieval" no technology of her other books more?

Hi! I haven't been online much, and haven't read in a while, cause my parents and I actually tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday. Home quarantined only, nothing serious, but just haven't gotten much time to come online such. We should be fine by the weekend, we started the meds on Monday and it's a 5-day dose. Haven't read the book in a while, but can hopefully get back to it soon!
