Oh how I loved this one!! The relationship development is HUGE! The chemistry is spot-on and the case perfection. I'm loving this series.

I’m with you all the way Sandra! I loved this book and did not want it to end.

Great developing relationship between Mason and Ava.
And the significance of the title is creepy but very fitting.
I think Kendra Elliot's writing definitely stepped up in this arc of her Oregon series and with the characters of Callahan and McLean.
What does everyone think of the sub plot with Ava's sister? I'm on the fence about this. I find the sister really irritating with all her problems which seem largely self inflicted. I guess I should be more sympathetic as she must have mental health problems but Elliot writes her without any redeeming characteristics. I'm guessing there is some link with her boyfriend Derek and the murders. And Ava has just ignored her plea.. Uh Oh! I'll read on..
I think the sister also serves as a "guilt trip" for Ava leading her into some dangerous situations. She seems to be constantly playing the guilt/sympathy card to get Ava to help her out of some bad situations.
Jonetta wrote: "I haven’t been able to squeeze this one in but you guys have me salivating to get to it."
So, so good!
So, so good!

Mason and Ava are a great couple. I love the relationship they are developing.

I'm loving the sister storyline. Jayne is her own worst enemy. She likes to play the victim. In her mind, nothing is ever her fault.

You're going to love this one, Jonetta.

Glad you enjoy the sister aspect, Robin. I wonder if Jayne will rehabilitate somewhere through the series? I'm thinking probably not.. but we will read on and see. And I hope Zachary finds his HEA somewhere through the series too.. but not Jayne!
4 stars

I can't imagine Jayne suddenly deciding to get help unless it's a choice between rehab or a jail cell.

I agree Lisa, Ava and Mason need a long vacation away from violence. I hope this isn't going to be a theme for the series, Ava gets hurt, then Mason comes to her rescue.
I was sure that Jayne was killed in the fire. I worried about how that would impact Ava and Mason's relationship. I'm wondering if Jayne is going to have a hospital stay to recover from her bones. Maybe that will give her time to think about getting help.
The twin (bad seed) gives the series an interesting sub plot that I enjoy.
Did anyone listen to the audio? I found both narrators annoying.

Robin A bad narrator can ruin a good story. I tend to stick with the narrators that I like. I listen at work. Believe it helps me concentrate on the detail of my job, because I don't get pulled into the conversations around me. My boss doesn't understand it, but she doesn't have any complaints with my work.

I've picked a couple of my audiobooks by looking for a narrator I enjoyed previously. So far I've been lucky with my picks.
I don't think I could concentrate on work while listening to a book. When I was a teenager I might have been able to do that. Now that I'm retired, the only multi-tasking I do when listening to a book is mindless stuff like running the sweeper.

After a congressman’s tortured body is found dangling from a Portland bridge, the FBI joins the Oregon State Police to investigate the case—and FBI Special Agent Ava McLane, still recovering from a bullet wound, hunts the twisted killer alongside the man who captured her heart, police detective Mason Callahan.
But once a third body appears and all evidence points to a serial killer, the public furiously clamors for answers—and the couple’s relationship grows fractured under the pressure. Ava and Mason search in the past for clues that predict the future. And when Ava’s mentally ill twin spins out of control, the FBI agent who battles monsters every day wonders if she shares her sister’s self-destructive streak…
In the latest thrilling romantic suspense novel from award-winning author Kendra Elliot, the past and the present violently collide…and the fallout can be deadly.
