Book - Fairest: Levana's Story
Number of pages- 222
Status- done
Book completed or not - yes
Summary: so if you've read the series from the start, you obviously know who levana is and why no one likes her. this book basically gives us more of her backstory, starting with her parents' assassination and her sister's corination. then we move on to levana falling in love, getting her heart broken (ngl she totally deserved it all) and this whole book really just lets you get to know her more as a character. it also gives us some details about winter, the princess of luna (other than selene, that is). we don't really know much about her in this book, but it's a very good intro to her character for the next book, which starts off with levana doing her queenly duties. levana's story also shows you how she feels about her court, and really just makes you realizes that on one hand her life has been... not good, but on the other hand, it's no excuse for being such a birch tree? anyway yeah this book was pretty good, and you should check out the series if you haven't already.

summary- this book is basically about a girl named scout who lives in alabama. her brother is kind of annoying, her aunt is...an aunt, and her dad is a lawyer who decided to defend a black man named tom robinson who was wrongly accused of raping a white girl (viola ewell or something). throughout the book, we see scout's perspective of the world she lived in, and it's clear how she goes from thinking everyone is either good or evil with no in between to seeing that good and evil can coexist within the same being or community (depending on what way you look at it). this book highlights the affects (effects? affects? idk) of racial injustice, and even though it's set in the great depression and was written like 50 years ago or something, it's still relevant today. anyways, it's a good book, and you should maybe read it? idk i mean it's up to you

Book: beauty and the moustache
Pages: 372
Summary - SPOILER ALERT: So this book is the 4th of the series as you follow the story of Ashley who's a nurse in Chicago.
She's independent since she turned 18 and left a house with 6 brothers and her mother.
She has to come back to Tennessee as she discovers that her mother's health is getting worse and she finds out that she has stage 4 cancer. Since before leaving from Chicago and in her first days at home, she thought that her 6 brothers where the same as when she was younger: mischievous and immature.
Soon she finds out that she wasn't the only one who changed and she started to care for her brothers as facing the soon death of their mother.
Then there is Drew, the boss of her older brother and someone her momma entrusted her will and power of attorney to. She understands that he is a handsome man, but she says to herself not to be involved with him.
Important is the contribution of her friends from the knitting group, and the husbands of her friends, who help Ash and Drew in many ways.
More important details about the relationship between Drew and her momma are reviled as Drew's sister committed suicide after Ash's father faked a marriage with her, while still being married to her momma. Ash's father is then described as a con-artist and someone who's after their momma property and money, someone who was violent and ready to try everything to obtain what he wanted. He waits till she's dead to come back and threaten the Winston family, but they manage to put him jail.
The story ends with Ash living in Tennessee with Drew, after coming back as her big brother sends her Drew's notebook filled with poetry about her and making her confess to Drew as soon as she reaches Tennessee.
In the end the knitting group managed to secure the happiness of another one of them.

Summary: Most of yall know about this book already, but I first started reading this series this month. In the third book, the Court of Dreams is now facing an impending war against Hybern and their forces. In order to beat Hybern, they need to get all the allies they can - including the rest of Prythian and perhaps some outside help as well. This book was definitely better than the first two, but I still gave it a three star mainly because of the plot holes and the sheer ridiculousness that was that final battle. I just could not get over everyone showing up at the same time (including Feyre/Nesta/Elain's dad which came out of absolutely no where). I think with so many players in the war, SJM just did not know how to properly balance everyone. The problem with war focused books is that you lose sight of the characters themselves - and I think that was a BIG issue with this book in particular. I did still enjoy the book, but there were just too many issues for me to ignore.

ok this book is kjghaskjdhgkjsfhk. I'VE READ IT BEFORE BUT I DIDN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING AND NOW IDK WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF. so winter is the daughter of levana's first husband, who she techincally killed. true love. anyways, she's super pretty and loveable with a side of psycho. and basically what happens is that instead of jacin getting killed (he's the guy that was with cinder in Cress), he becomes winter's personal guard, which is great because they're total besties and 100000% in love with each other. WOOO. meanwhile, cinder snatched kai and hey're in love in the middle of space whihc is super good. OH and scarlet's still on luna. one thing led to another, and the crew (minus scarlet ofc) got onto kai's spaceship thingy to try and ruin the wedding/coronation by starting a revolution (which is a great idea). but it doesn't work. cinder and wolf are snatched, iko and thorne are doing their own thing (aka i dont remember), and winter and jacin see cress by chance and save her. wolf gets his mind rescrambled, and cinder is stuck in a cell until the wedding. levana tries to kill her (again) and fails (again) and cinder escapes. then she starts a revolution, and a huge fight happens. levana gets killed, practically the entire crew needed to go to the hospital, etc. then cinder is queen, our fave ships get togther, and KAI TECHNICALLY PROPOSES AND CINDER TECHNICALLY SAYS YES SO IF YOU'LL EXCUSE ME I'M GOING TO GO READ SOME FANFICTION NOW

Summary: This is a fast-paced Rumpelstiltskin retelling with a twist of alchemy added to the mix. I found this a pretty quick read & a bit forgettable but let me try to summarise what happened (sans-spoiler) and what I thought of the book.
So the story focuses on Sepha, who's an alchemist. Early in the novel, she was jailed because something went wrong with her alchemy experiments. To save herself, she agreed on a dangerous & deadly bargain by a magician: that is to produce a child for the magician (who will be used against her). Through this treacherous journey, Sepha had to navigate through the complex web of dark politics that in the art of alchemy.
So while the alchemy & magician concept were interesting, I thought certain aspects of the magic system felt incomplete to me. For example, not a lot were explored about magic so I didn't really get how alchemy and magic blend together despite Sepha's relationship with the magician.
I also think the complex alchemist politics worked against me in engaging with the characters. I know things are happening and Sepha had to make difficult choices, but I didn't feel very invested in the characters.
Nevertheless, I do think The Lady Alchemist is an interesting retelling which adds quite a lot of layers of complexity to the original fairytale.

Summary: -copying and pasting my review-
Chloe and Red are great characters. Both have been hurt in the past, and that hurt has hindered both of them from progressing with their lives in a meaningful way. By finding each other and loving one another, they have both also learned to find ways to start loving themselves in the process.
I loved where we ended up because Chloe and Red really are perfect for one another. They bring out the best in one another, even if sometimes it can get a little messy. Despite that, the journey to the end was a little rough. We miss two entire months of their development - and I get that during those two months, they were at odds with one another, but it would have been nice to see their beginning to better appreciate how their story unfolds.
She was melting for him and they barely knew each other.
It's quotes like this that cause their development to feel like insta-love for me because of where we dropped into their romance, when in reality their beginning was fraught with misunderstandings. Again, it would have been nice to see their encounters and read through them to get a better sense of their headspace (and the insta-lust) prior to them falling for one another.
But speaking of misunderstandings, don't even get me started on the misunderstandings that occur within this book. If you don't count their skipped over bouts of miscommunication, there are two others that occur. Both aren't great. Thankfully they get resolved rather quickly, but they both (and the first one especially) feel rather contrived. The second moment of miscommunication feels more authentic because it actually touches quite heavily on their insecurities, but even that too could have been handled better.
In light of a few issues here and there, there were moments so heartfelt that I can't bring myself to give this book a 3 star rating.
“Red,” she whispered. “You don’t always have to be okay.”
She leaned closer and pressed a kiss to his cheek. He was still for a moment. But then he looked at her, and smiled, and murmured, “I know. But I am okay, with you.”
I just loved all of the times they carried one another and lifted each other up. Those scenes where they simply talk to one another are some of my favorites because you can clearly see how deeply they understand each other's faults and weaknesses. I think this is why the moments of miscommunication baffle me. And why all the sex scenes were frustrating to read through (there were so many!! (never thought I'd say that haha)). Regardless, it's those little moments (as well as the overall ending) that really bump up my rating for Get a Life, Chloe Brown and I am very excited to read the other two installments in this series.

summary: ***MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD***
so this book has 9 short stories, and i love them all. also, since they're short stories, the summaries won't be much...
the first one (the keeper) is all about michelle beniot and how she reunited with her lunar loverboy and he was like "uhh here's an almost dead princess. fixeth her". we also get some insight on how scarlet got to the whole "permenantly living with grandmeré" kind of thing. but yeah i liked that one.
next up: glitches. this one is about cinder and her first while living with adri and that bunch. we don't get much about garan, because he gets snatched by the med-droids bc of the letumosis or whatever it's called that he has. but early on we see that adri's a kjsdhfkjghdksfjhgsk (SO IS PEARL BTW), but peony is pretty amazing and i love her (rip).
third: the queen's army. this one is all about wolf (ze'ev. but that takes too long to spell so im going with wolf lol). anyway it kinda describes what it was like for him to go through the genetic modifications of becoming a wolf-y, supersoldier thing. then it talks about how he has to prove himself and the alpha was kjhskjhgksdfjg. also his bro is in his pack, which was f a n t a s t i c
#4: CARSWELL'S GUIDE TO BEING LUCKY. I LOVE THIS TITLE. WHY IS THIS SO HIM??? AND WHY AM I IN LOVE? WHYYYY??? anyway. so we get more on thorne's childhood and kate farrow, who i'm pretty sure cress went on a rant about in "cress", but idrk. we find out that very early on, thorne 's a lady's man (there was no doubt about it lol) we also learn that thorne's dad is a meanie, his mom is more or less gone, and his maid rocks. oh and he gets punched in the face. but that's not important
le fifth one: after sunshine passes by. this one is cress' backstory. it starts with mira being a little jhdkfjghkjdshfk, and cress becoming the #1 hacker (love to see ittt). but this one was pretty short so there's not much to say.
numero 6: the princess and the guard. this one IS ALL ABOUT WINTER AND JACIN WHEN THEY WERE KIDS. we also learn where winter got her scars, and why jacin decided to become a guard. also, we get some more info on winter's whole "i won't use my glamour thingy because i screwed someone's life over" thing. and it's kinda depressing. that poor girl. and im pretty sure aimery dies eventually, which is great
7: the little andriod. I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THIS ONE AT ALL. PERIODT. i'm so confused. i mean i get the plot: android falls in love with some guy, saves him, gets sent to a mechanic (not cinder) because she's got emotions, and then she reunites as an escort droid thing. WAIT HOLD ON. I JUST REALIZED THIS IS PROBABLY IKO'S BACKSTORY. IGNORE ALL OF THAT THEN. SORRY IM STUPID.
8: le mechanic. basically kai's pov of the first time he and cinder met. AND LEMME TELL YOU HE'S SIMPING SOOO HARD FOR CINDER AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL. but yeah not much to say about this one
LAST ONE:something old, something new. THIS ONE HAS SCARLET AND WOLF'S WEDDING. YEAH THEY'RE GETTING MARRIED. WOOOOOO. the whole gang was there, and because the paparazzi was kjsdfhgkjdhsfjs, wolf convinced everyone to move it up a few days to make scar happy, WHICH IS PERFECT I LOVE THEMM. when it's over (and are you ready for this?)

Summary: -copying and pasting my review-
What is up with my most recent reads forcing me to bump up their ratings right at the end? - 3.5 stars
This is a retelling of Peter Pan, but it's supposed to be more realistic, darker, and definitely more tragic. Wendy Darling lost her brothers 5 years ago in the woods, a six month period of time she does not remember and has haunted her to this day. On her 18th birthday, she finds a boy unconscious in the woods after her car is attacked by a shadowy figure. She does not remember him, but he remembers her. Now children are being kidnapped again, and everyone in town looks to Wendy and the mysterious boy with suspicion.
Despite the slow pace, some questioning choices throughout, and key pieces of information being kept from the reader, I could not give this book a 3 star rating, especially not after the way it ripped me apart at the end. And that's not to say a 3 star is bad per se, it's more of a neutral rating for me. But I do not feel neutral at all about this book. It's those damn family moments that got to me. That cathartic moment at the end that broke my heart while putting it back together again. I think the ending really made the rest of the book worth the read.
However, that is to say that there were a couple of issues I had with this book. The biggest being that the heart of this story should've been the Darling family. Instead, it was a bunch of interconnecting moments between Peter and Wendy, and then Wendy alone meandering through her life, over and over mixed between scenes of tension. I love the relationship between Peter and Wendy (in general), but in this story it was very weak. They had a few heartfelt moments here and there, and I especially loved their interactions at the end, but I could've loved those interactions more had we had sufficient build up between them. Another issue is those 5 years between Wendy's return and Peter appearing. What was Peter doing all that time? Was he chasing his shadow? Was he in Neverland? In the real world? Why does the shadow wait 5 years to start kidnapping children when it was lost so long ago? There are a lot of gaps in which the author is like -shrugs- fill in those gaps yourself! But it just causes me to struggle to buy the story that's presented before me. Because if you're planning on writing a "realistic" Peter Pan story, even with the magic, I need the rest of the story to be more realistic as well.
The ending really saved the story for me though. The twist at the end was heartbreaking but much needed for Wendy's development and the healing of the Darling family. Again, would've loved to witness their grief more, but for me, the emotions the book tore out of me truly sold the story. At its heart, this story is about loss and how to move on from that loss. I wish it was touched upon more throughout, but I'm happy with how it wrapped up.

summary: **kinda spoilers? idk**
ok so this book was (ngl) kinda a mess to me? idek.... so you prob alreayd know who cruella de vil is, and this is basically giving you some backstory as to why she snatched 101 dalmations. i mean i love puppies as much as the next person, but 101 is a lot....
so we start off with cruella being 11 (don't quote me on that age lol). anyway, she's got ehr mother, who's basically a fashion icon of sorts, and cruella desperately wants to impress her. she's got a governess named miss picket (maybe? idrk) and a butler names jackson (another maybe). every day cruella spends an hour with her mother, and it's pretty clear from the beginning that her mother isn't a mother, per say. i felt like she acknowledged her daughter because it was her legal duty to do so, and not because she loved her. but this family is filthy rich, so cruella's mom sends crue (that's what i'm calling her bc it's shorted to type. can you tell im lazy?) a lotta gifts, and crue thinks that her mother actually loves her. im not saying she didn't, but.....idk. and later that day, crue's dad, who's pone of the few decent characters in this book, gives cru some emerald earings that are cursed. and crue doesn't believe that, but i do, and i'll explain why in a bit. fast forward to a few years later, and crue's dad was pardoned from life. and he leaves everything to crue, and her mom is PISSED. LIKE REALLY PISSED. anyway, crue goes to finishing school with her bff. the girls thwere are snotty and aren't nice to anita bc she's "from a lower class" or something idk? anyway crue gets into this whole fight, which on one hand it's good to stand up for anita, but also threatening the headmistress? miss girl that's not how this works....
then, crue's mom is like uhhh you needs to get married. remember how crue's dad left everything to her? well crue's the last de vil, so she only gets the fortune if she keeps her last name/convinces her husband to change it. most men are snotty and...men (no offense to any actual decent male out there. yall really are rare...) so when crue brings this up while talking to another suitor (read: guy her mom forced on her bc she doesn't wanna deal with her daughter like a mature woman), they all said bye. EXCEPT FOR JACK. who died. in a fire. idk how. but there was a fire. and he died. rip jack. out of shock, 1/2 of crue's hair turns white, which is the most random cause of white hair i've ever heard but whatever. crue gives up her fortune to her mom, and just loses her mind from there, and i don't wanna go into that. BUT THIS IS WHY I THINK THOSE EARING REALLY WHERE CURSED: ok so crue basically went crazy. her dad dies, her mom basically ignores her, her bff said bye after crue turned out to be a meanie, and she pretty much lost her sanity and kidnapped (or should i say dognapped) 101 puppies. so yeah i kinda think those earing were cursed. thank you for listening to my ted talk. this book was fine ig. i'm just glad i finally read it to get it over with. anyway yeah

Summary: -copying and pasting my review-
I think I'm in the minority when I say that I enjoyed this more than the original trilogy. 4 stars.
This is considered to be a "novella" (it's almost 300 pages I don't think that counts as a novella) detailing the lives of the Court of Dreams after the war with Hybern. It gives us glimpses into their lives as they try to rebuild Velaris and determine who they now are after being in a battle-ready state for over 50 years.
There are, of course, many minor issues I have with random details here and there: why is Rhys so horny all the time, if fae periods are twice a year why didn't Feyre have issues with this during the war, etc, etc. But! I personally think SJM shines when there is no plot to worry about and we're just focusing on the characters she's created. They're flawed, they've been hurt, and my god are they still hurting. Oh! And that glimpse into Nesta and Cassian and the very steep uphill climb they have to even potentially restore what they had before (and possibly more?): delicious. I love the angst.
Also, side-note: I think Elain is actually much bitchier than how everyone else in the story perceives her to be.
Second side-note: I was so amped up/concerned about the sky sex scene and how cheesy/cringeworthy it might be that when it turned out to be a memory and not an ACTUAL scene we got to read through in real time, I was vERY disappointed.
Listen, I had a good time. There were zero plot holes I had to try and fill in on my own in an attempt to reconstruct the convoluted plots SJM tends to go for in her main series. Additionally, this didn't feel boring as her other books usually do during the less tense moments because I came into this expecting a more character driven story - which I adore. Seriously, I don't need action to enjoy a story. I just need something that has heart, and honestly, this had that for me.
