Give them a couple more minutes before we give up on them and cancel the challenge??

They are probably crashing the sign-up form in their haste to register!

My nephew has an orang utan teddy, and he was besides himself when I made it say "don't call me a monkey! I'm an aaaaape!" (whilst making said ape go, well... ape-sh*t crazy!)

catch them young, that's my approach!

oh, whilst I think about it... don't forget that TT means BOM points, so go vote on the polls for May and put a remind to check for the nomination threads in about 10 days :)

message 18: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13146 comments Sorry, the conga-line was a little windy and took a while to get here.

Changing over to a jig on the bar now that we're here. wait... Why can't I lift my feet? They're stuck. What is this stuff?
On second thoughts, I don't want to know...

I think I saw CMOT Dibbler outside. Anyone want to go out and grab me a pie?

Ooh a pie sounds tempting...

Did I hear you say CMOT Dibbler though. Maybe I'll wait to see how you find yours first.

I wasn't being evil and seeing who among the uninitiated would blindly go ahead and try one. Honest! ;)

message 26: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1829 comments Quick question to the ones familiar with Discworld; is it possible to read them out of order ?
And if yes, which one do you suggest if you could recommend only one ? Just in case book 1 might not be the best way to start the series :)

message 27: by Cat (last edited Mar 31, 2021 02:55PM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10149 comments Mod
Books 1&2 are definitely NOT where to start!

Outside of that, you get a range of options.
If you like mysteries, Guards! Guards! (first of the City Watch)
If you like Shakespeare and kick ass women power, Wyrd Sisters
If you want to get a handle on DEATH (cos who doesn't?), Mort is good.
If you are a YA reader, then Wee Free Men is perfect.

PS you'll never get fans to commit to one!

Mostly, yes. the only two that should absolutely be read in order are the first two, every other book is stand alone.

My personal favourites are Going Postal and Night Watch (also Hogfather, but that one is sort of Christmassy, so won't work as a summer book for some people, lol). but you'll find there are as many favourites as there are fans! There are so many different kinds of stories, from YA to crime procedural and earthy witches to zany wizardry, it's all going to be down to what kind of thing you most like to read!

There's a few I've skipped, and some I was a regular player.

The most stand alone-y of them would be Pyramids (featuring the best animal sidekick ever) and Small Gods (an atheist writes about religious beliefs v religious structures)

Melindam | 8504 comments Just drummed up some more, enthusiastic would-be customers from my UNO Team.

We know that Lord Vetinari is looking on kindly (ahem) on expanding the population of Ankh-Morpork.

So are each of us Pratchett fans going to nominate the first in a sub-series for BOMs during TT? ;)
