I loved this book, and can’t believe I had put off reading it. It was a beautifully written piece of fiction, following Nour and her family as they return to Syria following the death of her father. Civil War breaks out in Syria shortly after the family re-settle, and they are forced to flee. There is also a second story, which has parallels and interweaves with Nour’s story, telling of Rawiya, a mapmaker, who lived 800 years before and travelled the same route that Nour and her family must take. I like both of the interwoven stories, but I preferred Nour’s and the insights it gave into the problems facing Syrian refugees and their desperate attempts to escape from the Syrian civil war.

This was a 5 star read for me too, Hannah. I believe it was in my top ten of the year. Duel timelines sometimes irk me, but this was prefect, IMO.
This one was unforgettable, and made it to my lifetime five star top 10 for life! I couldn’t say enough great things about this book. The year I read it with PBT, we had quite a few people reading it together. And we all loved it!
Has anyone read her book that came out last year, The Thirty Names of Night?I would like to eventually get to that one too.

It is on my TBR, but I'm not sure when I will get to it. Possibly May?

I have this on my TBR, but it will be at least a couple of months until I get to it.
