I found this article with some interesting discussion questions (spoiler warning if you haven't read the book yet): https://www.thoughtco.com/jane-eyre-q... I'm so excited to read this again as I had a fascinating experience reading it previously. When I first read Jane Eyre in 2015, I was confused. I didn't hate it but certainly was underwhelmed and unimpressed. My comment from 6 years ago, when I rated it 3 stars, says "I simply do not think it's going to stick with me."
Then, after continuing to wonder what I missed with this book that so many people love, a few things came together and I decided to try it again. In 2019, unexpectedly, I absolutely loved Jane Eyre! Looking forward to seeing how my third adventure with this book goes.
Plus, I've pre-ordered Praying with Jane Eyre: Reflections on Reading as a Sacred Practice and wanted to re-read Jane Eyre before that comes out. This is great timing.
I have just finished reading this book and was amazed as to how involved I became with this intriguing Victorian character. So ahead of her time. I thought she was such an impressive person with the way she handled what life had dealt her. The descriptions of people's feelings were extraordinary, I can really sense their inner thoughts and motivations. Such a surprise to me how the author kept me gripped for the duration of the novel. I highly recommend this read and hope others get as much pleasure from it as I did.
I'm glad you enjoyed it Joe. I've finally started reading Jane Eyre again. I'm a big tennis fan so spent a couple of weeks watching Roland Garros instead of picking up a book. Wimbledon starts in a few days so really don't know how much of this I'll be reading over the next few weeks but I'll try.
I've finally got over my tennis-induced reading slump! And am LOVING reading Jane Eyre again. I've been alternating between listening to the audiobook (narrated by Wanda McCaddon - which helped me finish this book the first time I read it) and reading the paperback, I've read quite a bit the last two days. It's crazy to me now, that in the past I didn't love Jane Eyre. The narration style, with Jane telling her life story and addressing the reader, is wonderful. Jane is a clever and captivating lead, she feels modern. She's determined, thoughtful, self-respecting. The story is intense. Now I'm just spewing adjectives. Really, I adore this book.
I laughed out loud at the part where (view spoiler)

This is the place the discuss Charlotte Brontë's 1847 novel!
