National Library Week, April 4 - 10, 2021 is a time to celebrate our nation's libraries, library workers' contributions, and promote library use and support.

The theme for National Library Week 2021 is "Welcome to Your Library."

During the pandemic, library workers continue to exceed their communities' demands and adapt resources and services to meet their users' needs during these challenging times. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer endless opportunities to transform lives through education and lifelong learning.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate.

BookOwlDevoursBooks (Cora) (Review Hiatus) | 2 comments Libraries are my happy place! I have cherished memories of visiting many libraries with my parents when I was a kid and falling in love with reading. It was (and is) a good way to indulge my curiosity about the world!

While I enjoy books from many genres, I prefer science fiction and fantasy for their imaginative worldbuilding and their ability to make me look at (and understand) the real world differently.

Libraries give communities access to a wide range of knowledge and stories within their physical collections. This is important on its own, but libraries increasingly offer valuable online resources for their patrons as well, as methods of learning and transmitting knowledge evolve. And of course, libraries are community centers, places for gathering. There is a lot to love about libraries!

Happy National Library Week!

Toni (wisconsin_girl2011) | 1 comments I loved and currently love reading. Without libraries the whole start of the love for reading is taken away for most kids. For me to have libraries is just as vital as music, sports and arts.... just to name a few. without imagination, reading can't be really enjoyed. And if reading isn't encouraged, then imagination is being hindered. A person's love for reading helps to create the person they will be.

We wholeheartedly agree!

Being exposed to the different perspectives and ideas encountered through reading helps to create well-rounded people and informed citizens.

There are numerous reasons why I love my local library. For one it gives me access to books I wouldn't normally read without having to actually buy them (DVDs too). I too love Sci-Fi and Fantasy books, but recently, I have branched out into other genres which I would not do without the library. From perusing the shelves to staff recommending me similar books to the ones I enjoy allows me to frequently find new books to love.

I first started to really immerse myself into reading after getting a Brian Jacques' book, Mossflower, back in 5th grade with nothing to do on a rainy summer day. I fell in love with with the series and just bloomed from there tackling numerous fun books.

Some of my best memories of being in the library are attending specific events that the library put on. I remember back when the Harry Potter books were releasing, I attended an event where we got sorted into houses and did a ton of activities put on by the youth services. Other times I remember going to the library and deciding to read instead of doing my homework. I remember logging onto computers with friends to play games in middle school where we memorized our parents library card numbers to get passed the 30 minute time limits we were allowed to have.

All of these and many more reasons are why I love going to the the library.

Mandy (mandymae_r) | 14 comments I remember when growing up my mom would take us to the library all the time. We could check out stacks of books. It was so exciting when I got my own card! The library was right by the Jr. High School, so I got to walk over there sometimes and just sit and read. I remember the exact spot where the Stephen King books were and I remember sitting there looking through them all. Still love me some Stephen King.

Currently, I love that I can interlibrary loan just about any book I want. I love that I can go online, pick out the books I want, and just run in and pick them up. Now don't get me wrong, I love being the the library (I love to sit in front of the fireplace at the Holmen branch and read), but I am a very busy person and sometimes I just need to get what I need.
