Prologue
Isla was on her way home from work. She was driving her old and beat up 2004 Ford Fiesta. As she drove up to her house and pulled in the driveway, nothing could have prepared her for what was to happen.

-Earlier that morning-

As Isla got up and began getting ready for the day, she noticed that her husband, David, was already up. She ignored the fact and continued getting ready. As she left the house, she realized David was very focused on a set of papers that he was working on, which was no surprise, because he worked for an insurance company, so that kind of thing was normal. What was abnormal is that he didn’t echo her “see ya later” like he usually did. As she left for her workplace, which was an office building a few miles north of where they lived, she couldn’t help but wonder what David was working on.
During her daily commute, she couldn’t help but notice that there were fewer people on the bus than usual, but again, she ignored the fact. She had left her car at work the day before, because David had picked her up. She spied a newspaper box on her way into her workplace, and she caught one word on the front page: “Killings”. This troubled her, because it was a small town. This was too big of a fact to ignore. She bought one, and read it while walking into work.

Chapter 1: The Killings
The killings started gradually, with one person murdered every few months. Not a lot, but enough to be worrying. Then they started to speed up. The number of murders spiked to one every few weeks, with people wondering when they will stop and who will be next. The people targeted seemed to be controversial figures and politicians. Nobody knew who was performing the killings, but they were speeding up. There could be a killing in San Jose, California, and a week later, a killing in Yonkers, New York. It had to be the work of a group. There was no way it was just one person.
Isla slammed down the newspaper she had bought. The way David had acted this morning echoed in her mind. He must have seen the papers already. She thought. Was that why he didn’t answer me? She gave up the thought. She had to get to work.
Isla worked at Browning & Browning Law Firm, and today was pretty quiet. She spent the day working on a spreadsheet and telling people that if somebody disagrees with you over how they’re supposed to stand, it doesn’t require legal action. She had dealt with too much of this in the past. She wished people would grow up and act their age. But unfortunately, nobody listened to her.
When she finished her spreadsheet, it was about 3:00 pm. She didn’t get off work until 3:30 today. She decided to call Lisa to her office. She picked up the work phone on her desk and dialed her friends office number. It rang once, rang twice, rang three times, and Isla was starting to get worried, but right before it went to voicemail Lisa picked up the phone.
“Hey, Isla!”
“Hi, Lisa!”
“Hey, want to come to my office? I got thirty minutes till I’m off.”
“Sure!” At that, she hung up. A few minutes later, Lisa was knocking at Isla’s office door.
