Aiswrya | 1213 comments Alright, now that we have all that out of the way, I'm Aiswrya (Aish-war-ya). Very nice to e-meet all of you! I live in New Jersey (Eastern Time). I work in management consulting and honestly, it's getting too stressful to be enjoyable :/ Books are my escape from that haha

I typically read 4-5 books a week, almost exclusively romance. I have been reading a lot of MM romance these days, and I'm quite enjoying it! This is my first time being Captain, so go easy on me :P

P.S. you can call me Ash or Aish :)

Ilse | 148 comments Hi everyone!
My name is Ilse. Nice to meet everyone! I live in the Netherlands (CET). I’m in high school; I’ll graduate next year. I’m 17 years old and love reading! I read about 1-2 books per week, mostly fantasy, dystopian and sci-fi books.
This is my first time being Co-Captain :)
I’m very excited to do this with you all!

message 19: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4163 comments Hello hello! I'm Judy and currently both finishing up my second semester of grad school and very busy at work, so I've been going through it the past couple of weeks! Everything should calm down just in time for TT so start though ;) I'm currently on the west coast (PST) but will be going back to Germany (CET) at the end of May

When I'm not getting steamrolled by class work, I read around 4 books a week, a pretty good mix of everything except thriller/mystery/horror.

Nice to meet you all!

Aiswrya | 1213 comments Any discworld fans here? I haven't read a single book before, but I volunteered for DQs for Equal Rites. Let's see how that goes

message 21: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4163 comments I haven't read a single one either though between the people in this group and some new RL friends, I've heard a lot about these books recently and have been more curious than ever...

I'll definitely participate in the BOMs, I can never resist these sweet sweet bonus points

message 22: by Ilse (new)

Ilse | 148 comments I’ve never read a Discworld book before, but I am really curious about how the books actually are since a lot of people seem to like them :)

message 23: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1187 comments Hello everyone. My name is Natasha and I live in New Jersey (EST). I'm a cataloging librarian. I've been working from home most days out of the month. 3 days every four weeks I'm in the library. I'm a bit behind in my reading due to anxiety and being too attached to my phone, but I can read about 3-4 books a week. I enjoy science fiction, fantasy, young adult, historical fiction (earlier than 1900s), history, science, physics, and literary studies. I may have read a Discworld at some point in my life, but if I did, I don't remember doing so.

Melissa | 247 comments Hi everyone! I'm Melissa and I live in Georgia (EST) . For what it's worth, I lived the better part of my life in New Jersey! I'm a stay at home mom. Right now, I get 1-2 books read a week. Hopefully when the kids get out in May, I can get more reading done sitting by the pool. Nice to meet all of you!

Christina (chrissy__) | 3116 comments Hi everyone! My name is Christina (she/her) and I live in Austria (also CET!). I usually work as a waitress in my mum's restaurant, due to covid however we're currently only able to offer takeaway on weekends (let's be real, we're a mess (meaning Austria is)).
I had heard about Discworld before, but I'm not really into any kind of fantasy (unless it's H*rry P*tter which JKR has almost ruined for me but I'll never not love it). If I can get my hands on the first one of the Discworld BOMs though I'll give it a shot for the bonus points which I'm always here for :D
I only signed up for 4 books a month as I mentally can't commit to more at the moment, but maybe (hopefully) I'll get sucked back into it soon again. Most books I read or listen to are YA Contemporaries or Thrillers/Mysteries.

And now I'm off to check out the BOM thread!

EDIT: wasn't entirely sure what I said I'd name my tt shelf so it might differ a little bit, but here it is: x-ttviii

Immediately thought you were Dutch as the only (younger) Ilses I know are Dutch :D also, I'm a huuuuuuge fan of Ilse DeLange and have seen her live more than I would like to say lol

Alya | 36 comments Hi! My name is Alya and I'm from Lithuania. I'm currently studying Economic Analysis and read around 4 books a month, but challenges really motivate to read more. I have never read Discworld and I'm not really interested in them.. but hey, maybe this is the time to give the series a chance :D

I read a variety of genres, usually fantasy or literary fiction. Hopefully we'll all read plenty of great books during the challenge :)

Also, this is my first time participating, so I might get very confused and not understand a single thing, so please show me the way:D

This so much haha! Although I have participated and even co-captained in several team challenges over the last couple of years, TT always seems quite intimitating and overwhelming to me at first. Checking out the team spreadsheet helps clear things up though!

@captains can I ask if you plan to make a separate ss/tab with a better overview of the whole task section? I know it's still early hours and at least some of us are still working on our uno cards + tasks ;) but yeah I was wondering if I should start it myself or just wait lol I still have a template from last year's wheel I think, if you wanna use it!

The name Ilse also gets used in German, but as far as I know it isn't used as frequently these days. Anyway, YES, IDL is amazing live and also one of the kindest people I've ever met!

May I ask where in Austria you've been? Most people hear Austria and either think it's Australia or think of mountains, which I have none closeby at all haha
I've counted recently, and I realized I've been to the Netherlands 9 times by now, mostly for Ilse concerts (which is ridiculous, I know) lol. Would you mind telling me which city you live close to, or in which province? Of course you could also dm me if you don't wanna share publicly! man I miss going to Holland so much :(

〰️Beth〰️ (x1f4a0bethx1f4a0) | 206 comments Hi I am Beth, not part of your group, always wondered what TT was and then I see Disc World characters! I am swamped with challenges but when I see no one has read Pratchett I have to recommend you all find one to try some time in your life. In the first 15 or so you can pick a book on a theme and try it but there is overlap of characters as you move over book 20 and heading forward. Some books focus more on one group of characters ( wizards or cops) and are sprinkled through the 40+books.

I started with Soul Music enjoyed and went back to book one. Starting after book one might help many to see his satire since each book expounds on a concept you can pick something of interest without feeling committed to a series. Many do Hogfather because who doesn’t want to see DEATH (think grim reaper) pretend to be Santa and save Christmas.

Off my soap box, hope you enjoy what ever you read!

I'm German! From Munich to be precise, so not too far from you wherever you are in Austria ;) I I'm currently in Canada as I'm doing a Master's here but I need to be back in Germany for work in June/July. I'm not exactly looking forward to my second round of intercontinental travel during covid (but at least quarantine rules aren't as strict in Germany as they are here...)

My program started in September but I couldn't go then as my "visa" hadn't been processed yet plus students weren't considered "essential travel" at the time. But taking classes on a 9 hour time difference is terrible so eventually I decided I had to come here. I ended up going in January, did two weeks of quarantine and all that - would honestly not recommend... let's hope once I'm vaccinated I can get back to Canada a little easier in August :)

message 37: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenniferandkimya) | 143 comments Hello! My name is Jennifer, and I'm also a librarian (children's librarian) in Oregon (PST). I think this is my 3rd time participating in TT, although I took a break for a few years. I've been struggling to read consistently, so I'm hoping this gets me out of my rut (I have a ton of good books on my list, so that's not an issue for me!).

I've also never read Terry Pratchett (I know, I know), so I would totally volunteer to read a random Discworld novel, as they've been on my "must check out this series at some point" list for a long time.

I also like to knit and run, so sometimes these things get in the way of my reading time. I think I signed up for one or two books a week (maybe more if I get through my backlog of children's fiction...).

Remind me again if there's a length requirement for books?

Looking forward to joining you all!

We’re not planning on putting another tab; the tasks are pretty clear like this. Otherwise it might also end up being too many sheets, and that would be quite difficult to maintain haha. So I think we’re going to leave it like this :)

I’ve been to the mountains in Austria; I’m not sure where exactly to be honest. If you don’t mind me asking, where do you live in Austria?

Hi, that’s a great job! Hopefully, TT will indeed help you egt out of it.

Great, sounds good.

Don’t worry; read as much as you want and are able to.

We get points if you read books with 100 or more pages. With less than 100, we get 0 points. For a book between 100 and 1000 pages, it’ll be 0.1 points/page. For books with over 1000 pages, it’ll be 100 points in total.

Thank you! It looks like most middle grade books should be at least 25,000, and those are the books I'm aiming for!

Nope, no restrictions on ARCs, as long as they have a GR page. We can have page counts added, if needed.

Oh yikes. That's a super long time! Congrats on finally making full-time!

I got kind of lucky with my job. I threw out a few applications, applied to one of the local libraries, and got accepted. That was about 6 months after graduation from my MLIS program. I'd been working in libraries for almost 5 years at that point and already had a full-time job so I was being picky. I was thrilled to not have to move as I love where I'm living.

I still don't know what my favorite part of the library is, but there is something magical about reading books to preschoolers. I miss all my in-person storytimes something fierce, and I've been in a funk for about a year because of it. If you'd asked me when I was young what I wanted to do when I grew up, reading to kids would have been the last thing on the list, but interacting with kids is honestly my favorite part of the job. Adults can be so annoying.
